LAKE PROVIDENCE Grace M. Sumrall died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, at East Carroll Parish Hospital in Lake Providence. She was 89.

Mrs. Sumrall was preceded in death by a son, John Hopkins.

She is survived by a son, George Hopkins of Lake Providence; her daughter, Charlene Crews of Lake Providence; a sister, Emma Bell Townsend of Silsbee, Texas; 12 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Cox Funeral Home in Lake Providence with the Rev. V.L. Dickson officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Memorial Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandsons.

IRENE CHANEY VEAZEY

MEMPHIS Irene Chaney Veazey died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis. She was 87.

Born in Rolling Fork, Mrs. Veazey was a resident of Memphis. She was a retired school teacher with DeSoto County Schools. She was a member of the Methodist faith.

She is survived by six nephews, Michael Chaney, Thomas Averett, John Chaney, J.T. Chaney, William Chaney and Wayne Chaney; and two nieces, Sherry Cornett and Neda Tamboli; and great-nephews and great-nieces.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Vickland Cemetery in Delta City. Burial will follow under the direction of Hernando Funeral Home.

JAMES W. WASHINGTON

UNION CHURCH James W. Washington died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, at Natchez Regional Medical Center. He was 86.

Born in Jefferson County, Mr. Washington was a member of Hickory Block United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Truly Washington and Sarah Brown.

He is survived by three daughters, Mary Amos of Union Church, Betty Ann Bonds of Summit and Geraldine Ellis of Fayette; a son, James Washington Jr. of Union Church; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and other relatives, including Lue Ella Glass, Clentonia Washington and Sam Good, all of Union Church.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hickory Block United Methodist Church in Union Church with the Rev. F.L. Pendelton officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 until 7 tonight at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until the service Saturday at the church.
