MARY SUSAN RAY BROWN

Services for Mary Susan Ray Brown will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Bethlehem M.B. Church with the Rev. David Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Williams Funeral Service.

Mrs. Brown died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 51.

Mrs. Brown was a retired school teacher with the Vicksburg Warren School District. She was a member of The Vicksburg Benevolent Homecoming Club, the En Vogue Social Civic Club and Bethlehem M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Granger E. Ray and Lillian Shelley Ray.

She is survived by her husband, Leslie F. Brown of Vicksburg; her son, Granger Brown of Vicksburg; four sisters, Lillian C. Ray of Shreveport, Grangerette Ray Haynes, Sally Ray Johnson and Rose Ray Smith, all of Vicksburg; five godsons, Robert Brown, Corey Brown, Leonard Brown and Quinton Brown, all of Albion, Mich., and Ronnie Brown of Vicksburg; and three goddaughters, Donnya Murphy of Jackson, Anquinette Brown Kemp of Albion and Shaquita Schumpert of Starkville.

HELEN T. HOLMES

FAYETTE Helen T. Holmes died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, at University Medical Center in Jackson. She was 67.

Mrs. Holmes was preceded in death by her parents, Monroe and Henrietta Tenner; three sisters, Annie Lee Tenner, Betty Mae Barnes and Allean Winfield; and two brothers, Mose Tenner and Louis Tenner.

She is survived by her husband, William Holmes Sr. of Fayette; two daughters, Mimie Holmes and Henrietta Thomas, both of Fayette; her son, William Holmes Jr. of Vicksburg; her sister, Mamie Wells of Baton Rouge; her brother, Robert Tenner of Baton Rouge; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Mariah Baptist Church in Fayette with the Rev. Percy Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill No. 2 Baptist Church Cemetery in Fayette under the direction of Spencer Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 2 until 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and from noon Saturday until the service at the church.

Pallbearers will be Don Terry Reed, Johnny Gibbs, Terry Jackson, Ben Porter, Michael Houston and Trennis Gooden.

Honorary pallbearers will be Huey P. Holmes, Johnny Winfield Jr., Charles Holmes, Edwin Holmes, Huey Holmes Jr. and Henry Stampley.

KATHERINE McCALEB

Katherine McCaleb died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. She was 94.

Born in Claiborne County, Miss McCaleb graduated from boarding school at Union Church and attended Hinds Junior College. She moved to Memphis in 1922 and lived there until 1993. She was a retired office manager for State Mutual Life Insurance Company. She was a life member and past board member of the Association for Preservation of Tennessee Antiquities. She was also a member of Fort Assumption Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Rev. Henry Smith chapter of the 17th century Colonial Dames, First Families of Mississippi, Dixon Gallery and Gardens, the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art and Calvary Episcopal Church.

She is survived by her niece, Katherine M. Bilbro of Port Gibson; a great-niece, Laura Connor; a great-nephew, J. McCaleb Bilbro of New Orleans; and two great-great-nephews, Robert and McCaleb Connor, both of Butler, Ala.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. James Episcopal Church in Port Gibson. Burial will follow at Wintergreen Cemetery under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home of Port Gibson.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Saturday until the service at St. James Episcopal Church in Port Gibson.

Memorials may be made to St. James Episcopal Church in Port Gibson or to a favorite charity.

ROSA LEE SHEDD

Services for Rosa Lee Shedd will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Zion Traveler’s M.B. Church with the Revs. Alfred E. Lassiter Jr. and John Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Williams Funeral Service.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home and from noon Saturday until the service at the church.

Mrs. Shedd died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, at River Region Medical Center West. She was 70.

A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Shedd was a retired licensed practical nurse at the Mississippi State Hospital in Whitfield. She was a member of Zion Traveler’s M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Annie and Anthony Stewart and Irene McMorris; two brothers, William McMorris and James Elmore; a sister, Julia Holloway; and a grandson, Herbert W. Shedd.

She is survived by Tennyson O. Shedd Jr.; three sons, Tennyson O. Shedd III, Michael B. Jackson and Herbert W. Shedd; three daughters, Carolyn Shedd Lassiter, Bonnie Shedd Fox and Janet Higgins Clark; two brothers, Albert McMorris and James McMorris; eight sisters, Annie Bell Smith, Christine Davis, Eleise Dorsey, Minnie Gee, Ruby Washington. Myrtis “Frances” Hudson, Katie Frierson and Willie Mae Freeman; 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and other relatives.
