DAVID BLACKWELL

Services for David Blackwell will be at 2 p.m. today at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry White officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Blackwell died Sunday, March 3, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. He was 31.

A native and lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mr. Blackwell was a 1989 graduate of Warren Central High School. He was formally employed with MIDD-West. He was a member of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Felix Blackwell and Melvie Blackwell; and his maternal grandmother, Joy Kearns.

He is survived by his parents, Ernest Carroll and Margaret Kearns Blackwell of Vicksburg; his brother, Brian “Rusty” Blackwell of Vicksburg; his sister, Angela Hill of Vicksburg; his maternal grandparents, Billy and Lee Kearns of Vicksburg; and other relatives.

Pallbearers will be Jack Hill Jr., Lee Hill, Dale Jones, Ben Hill III, Tommy King and Bill Comans.

Honorary pallbearers will be Erine Wallace, Jason Derryberry, Andy Whitehead, Dr. Lamar McMillin and Dr. David Halinski.

RULEY BURNS

Ruley “Jr. Boy” Burns of Vicksburg died Monday, March 4, 2002, at Northeast Community Care Inc. in Rayville, La. He was 67.

A retired farmer, Mr. Burns was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Alexander, and his father.

Survivors include five sisters, Anna Rudell Washington of St. Francisville, La., Jurline Howard of Detroit, Rogene Spinks of Chicago, Mary Polk of Jackson and Lurline Green of Vicksburg; and nieces, nephews and other relatives, including Rosie Hicks and Anna Marie Lee, both of Vicksburg.

Williams Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

JOSEPH DEAN COLE SR.

Joseph Dean Cole Sr. died Sunday, March 3, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. He was 67.

Born in Redwood, Mr. Cole was a graduate of Redwood High School. He was a self-employed contractor. He was a member of First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by a son, William Russell Cole; a daughter, Linda Katherine Harrison; his parents, Russell Graham and Addie Hackler Cole; and a brother, James Russell Cole.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Leola Phelps Cole of Vicksburg; two sons, Joseph Dean Cole Jr. and Steven Allan Cole, both of Vicksburg; a daughter, Addie Jane Barnett of Brandon; two brothers, Zane Grey Cole of Prescott, Ark., and John Scott Cole-Hazel of Green, Ala.; two sisters, Catherine Bufkin and Isabel Smith, both of Vicksburg; 10 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with Dr. John G. McCall officiating. Burial will follow at Hackler Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Rickey Hancock, Anthony Hancock, Bobby Dean Culbertson, Robert Mark Culbertson, Jamie Cole, Keith Keen, Joe Redditt and Robert Griffin.

Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Hancock, Charles Thomas, Elbert Redditt, Robert King, Kenneth Ricks, Joe Durst, Leon Henry, Sherwood Lyons Sr., J.W. Hearn, Fred Owens, Dr. Gerhand Mundingey Jr., Dr. Yosshinobu Namihara, Dr. Chester W. Masterson and Dr. Lamar Weems.

ZENOBIA L. SIMS JONES

CHICAGO Zenobia L. Sims Jones, formerly of Vicksburg, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, in Chicago. She was 74.

Mrs. Jones was an educator in the Mississippi Public Schools for a number of years. She married and moved to Chicago, where she was a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church.

She was a member of Queen of Sheba, Vashti chapter Order of Eastern Star, serving as secretary for a number of years. She also served on the Pastor’s Club, Deaconess Board, Mississippi Club and Missionary Society.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Rosie and Isiah Sims Sr., three brothers and four sisters.

She is survived by one sister, Lillie Harris of Oakland, Calif.; three brothers, Isiah “Shorty” Sims Jr. of Vicksburg, Ernest Sims of Chicago and Frank Sims of Aurora, Ill.; a stepdaughter, Joan Randolph of Chicago; and two stepgrandsons, and nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives, including members of the Middleton, Bass and Flowers families of Vicksburg.

Services were Friday at Mount Moriah Church in Chicago under the direction of Unity Funeral Home.
