EVANGELEAN CORA BARBER

Evangelean Cora Barber died Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 82.

Mrs. Barber retired as a cook from Rosa A. Temple High School. She was a member of New Zion M.B. Church.

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and a former member of Clover Valley M.B. Church’s adult choir.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Columbus and Beulah Watkins Barber; her husband, Louis “Pine” Gaskin Sr.; three sons, Columbus Palmer, Louis Gaskin Jr. and Charles Gaskin; and one sister, Rosalean Davis.

Survivors include three sons, Arthur Roy Gaskin of Vicksburg, Eugene Palmer of Robin, Ill., and James Gaskin of Aurora, Ill.; seven daughters, Beulah Mae Fultz of Aurora, Willilean Gaskin Scott of Jackson and Ruby Callahan, Margaret Segrest, Lee Dora Howard, Rosie Coleman and Virginia Gaskin, all of Vicksburg; and grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

ISIAH R. DUNMORE

Isiah R. “Pee Wee” Dunmore died Monday, March 4, 2002, at his sister’s home in Decatur, Ga. He was 47.

Mr. Dunmore was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Sr. and Josie Dunmore.

He is survived by two daughters, Maieya Nichols and Lasundra Dunmore, both of Los Angeles; his son, Michael Chiplin of Los Angeles; two brothers, Clarence E. Dunmore Jr. and Omar Shabazz, both of Vicksburg; three sisters, Mary Brown of Decatur, Mamie Bailey of Chicago and Dorothy Dunmore of Vicksburg; nieces; nephews; and other relatives.

Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

MARY B. FORD

Mary B. “Granny” Ford died Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 90.

Born in Obion, Tenn., Mrs. Ford had lived in Vicksburg most of her life. She was a retired certified operating room technician at Mercy Hospital with 30 years of service. She was one of the founders of the Vicksburg Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was the daughter of a Confederate veteran. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she worked in the nursery department for 40 years and was a member of the Lottie Moon Missionary Society.

She was preceded in death by her husband, C.L. Ford Sr.; and a grandson, David Ellerbee.

She is survived by two sons, Charles L. “Buster” Ford Jr. and Alfred W. Ford, both of Vicksburg; her daughter, Betty McBroom of Baskin, La.; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

HAZEL RUTH MARTIN

PORT GIBSON Hazel Ruth Martin died Friday, March 1, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 76.

Mrs. Martin was a member and mother of Greater St. Mark M.B. Church and the Willing Workers Club. She was past president of the County Junior Matron Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Archie and Madora West; three sons, Bernard Weathers, Otis Butler and Percy R. Butler; two daughters, Gloria Martin-Walker and Jacqueline Martin; three sisters, Adlean Marsaw, Juanita West and Mary Irving; and three brothers, Lonnie West, Earl West and Chrystal West

She is survived by her husband, Nathaniel Martin Sr. of Port Gibson; six sons, Frederick Martin and Nathaniel Martin Jr., both of Port Gibson, Ira T. West of Atlanta, Melvin Butler Sr. of St. Louis, Willie Butler and Samuel Butler, both of Chicago; four daughters, Gardenia Griffin, Shirley Henderson and Cherrie Spiller, all of Port Gibson, and Joyce Dennis of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; three stepchildren, Tommie Martin of Cleveland, Ohio, Richard Bingman of Oakland, Calif., and Rosemary Rachelson of Taos, N.M.; his brother, Walter Herbert West of Port Gibson; a sister, Alma Doss of Natchez; 24 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and other relatives.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Greater St. Mark M.B. Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. Leon Howard officiating. Burial will follow at the Wilson Family Cemetery in Port Gibson.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Wednesday at Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson and from 10 a.m. Thursday until the service at the church.
