MARIE BANKS BROWNHERMANVILLE Marie Banks Brown died Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview, Texas. She was 91.

A homemaker, Mrs. Brown was born in Claiborne County.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Maxie Brown; her parents, Fred Banks and Bessie Tarleton; five sons, Fred Sylvester, Bennie Brown, Melvin Newton, Sam Brown and Maxie Brown Jr.; and one daughter, Florence Brown.

She is survived by five sons, John Preston Brown and Tommy Brown, both of New London, Conn., David Brown of Lorman, Johnny Brown of Hermanville and caregiver Bob Earl Brown of Longview; three daughters, Lula Brown of Old Lyme, Conn., Billie Reed of Port Gibson and Viola Moore of Hermanville; and 33 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church in Hermanville with James Dorsey officiating. Burial will follow at Sneed-Blackmond Cemetery in Hermanville.

Visitation will be until 5 p.m. today at Rollins Funeral Home in Port Gibson.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Davis, Earnest Tarleton, Jerry Jackson, Richard Wilder, Carl Tarleton and David Jackson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Steven Brown, David Brown Jr., Bob Brown Jr., Johnny L. Brown Jr., Kevonte Moore and Greg Brown.

LILLIAN BERTHA CLARK

Services for Lillian Bertha Clark will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Grove M.B. Church with the Rev. Glen Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Saturday until the service at the church.

Mrs. Clark died Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at her daughter’s home. She was 75.

She was born in the Grange Hall community. She was a member of Cedar Grove M.B. Church. She retired as a cook from Kuhn State Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Clark, and her stepfather, Leonard Bell.

She is survived by her mother, Sarah Parson Bell of Vicksburg; two sons, Carl L. Horne of Vicksburg and Robert L. Brown Jr. of Dallas; two daughters, Carolyn Horne Bradford of Vicksburg and Lynette E. Brown of College Park, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and other relatives, including Richard Bradford III, Pattie Horne Shirley Brown and members of the Parson, Horne, Bradford, Hall, Burn, Harris, Coleman and Cox families of Vicksburg.

DAISY ELLIS

PORT GIBSON Daisy Ellis died Saturday, March 9, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 83.

Mrs. Ellis was born in Claiborne County and attended Jackson College. She retired as a teacher, serving public schools in eastern Mississippi.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Sr. and Pinky Ellis; two brothers, Richard Ellis Jr. and Harvey Ellis Sr.; and three sisters, Hattie Hayes, Annie Ellis Tisdale and Ruby Russell.

Survivors include a brother, Josiah Ellis of Pattison; a sister, Martha Ellis of Port Gibson; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends, including her caregiver Inez Chatman of Port Gibson.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Rollins Funeral Home in Port Gibson with the Rev. Jimmy Ellis officiating. Burial will follow at Garden Memorial Cemetery in Jackson.

Visitation will be until 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Neal Ellis, T.J. Payne, Michael Wells and Tywarren Brown.

Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Ellis, Harvey Ellis Jr., Eddie C. Ellis, Samuel Noble Jr. and Abraham Jones.

THE REV. R.J. JOINTER

CARY The Rev. R.J. Jointer died Monday, March 11, 2002, at his home. He was 102.

Rev. Jointer was born in Yazoo City and attended Isola public schools. He worked at Belgrade Lumber Co. in the 1920s and began ministering and preaching in 1936.

He served at Lynch Chapel at Ballground, Clark’s Chapel in Cary and Mount Tabor in Fitler. He had been pastor at Mount Buria Baptist Church in Cary for the past 42 years.

He was a moderator for the Issaquena Baptist Association and a delegate to the Mississippi General Baptist State Convention. He was also a Master Mason of the Silver Trowel Lodge. No. 76, where he served as secretary.

Rev. Jointer was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Toombs Jointer; three sons, Ledell Jointer, Jeff Jointer and M.B. Jointer; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a son-in-law.

He is survived by a daughter, Ruby Lee Hills of Vicksburg; seven grandchildren, including Robert B. Hills Jr. of Vicksburg and Barbara Johnson of Jackson; 19 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and nieces.

Services will be at noon Saturday at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Cary.

Visitation will be from 6 until 7 tonight at Walker Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.
