LEROY CHRISTMAS

Leroy Christmas died Friday, March 22, 2002, at University Medical Center in Jackson. He was 57.

Mr. Christmas was a native of Hinds County and self-employed in construction and logging. He was a member of St. Paul’s M.B. Church of Bovina.

He was preceded in death by his father, E.C Cooks; a sister, Inel Cooks, and a brother, Kenny Ray Cooks.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel Christmas of Vicksburg; five sons, including Reginald Christmas, Daniel Christmas and Derrick Christmas, all of Vicksburg; a daughter, Trecia Freeman of Memphis; his mother, Marlena Cooks of Vicksburg; three sisters, Sharlena Fahngon of Decatur, Ga., and Elise Beacham and Gertha Ponce, both of Edwards; six brothers, Jimmie Dotson and Ronnel Cooks of Vicksburg, Clyde Cooks and Samuel Cooks of Edwards, Tyrone Cooks of Garland, Texas, and Robert Cooks of Michigan; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Robbins Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

MIZELLA COOK

Services for Mizella Cook will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Rose Hill No. 1 Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Walter Weathersby officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be all day Monday at Robbins Funeral Home chapel followed by a wake from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m.

Mrs. Cook died Tuesday, March 19, 2002, at University Medical Center in Jackson. She was 55.

Mrs. Cook was a Vicksburg native and a member of Faith Christian Center.

She is survived by her husband, Johnny Cook Jr.; her parents, Edgar R. Price and Bessie Howard; two sons, Jerel P. Cook of Vicksburg and Raymond L. Brown of Chesapeake, Va.; a daughter, Sheila D. Henderson of Vicksburg; two sisters, Joe Ann Reese of Detroit and Jessie Mae Johnson of Vicksburg; five brothers, John L. Nixon, Allen Price, Norman Price, Roy N. Nixon and Jerome W. Nixon, all of Vicksburg; and four grandchildren and other relatives.

MARY LEE JONES

Mary Lee Jones died Saturday, March 23, 2002, at her home. She was 83.

Mrs. Jones was a member of Porters Chapel M.B. Church where she was an usher.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Hattie Barnes; a son, Curtis Lee Jones; and three brothers, George Tolliver, Ernest Tolliver and Jim Barnes.

She is survived by her husband, Cornelius Jones of Vicksburg; two daughters, Rosetta Phillips Mitchell of Aurora, Ill., and Beatrice Totten of Justice, Ill.; four sons, Arthur Jones of Vicksburg, Donnell Jones of Seaside, Calif., and Cornelius Jones Jr. and David Lee Jones, both of Aurora; a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-granchildren and other relatives.

Dillon-Chisley funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

ZADIE GAINES PATTERSON

NATCHEZ Zadie “Lady” Gaines Patterson died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at Natchez Regional Hospital. She was 91.

Mrs. Patterson was a homemaker and a member of Poplar Hill AME Church in Fayette. She was also a member of Heroines of Jericho Court 202.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roosevelt Patterson Sr.; her parents, David and Arneda Gaines; three sons, Roosevelt Gaines Jr., Samuel D. Gaines and Theodore Gaines; a daughter, Emma Lee Rankin; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She is survived by two sons, James Patterson of Vicksburg and Bernard Rankin of New Orleans; nine daughters, Bertha Marie Harris of Vicksburg, Annette Cruel, Viola Jones, Caralle Harried Waites, all of New Orleans, Lula Mae Wilson of Shreveport, Azel Hutchains, Juanita Brown, both of Chicago, Rosie Lee Fells of Gulfport, and Shirley Green of Fayette; one brother, Lee Gaines of Vicksburg; 57 grandchildren; 82 great-grandchildren and 28 great-great grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Poplar Hill AME Church in Fayette with the Rev. John L. Quinn officiating. Burial will follow at Poplar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. today at the Rollins Funeral Home chapel in Fayette.

Pallbearers will be her gandsons.
