[03/27/02]After rolling through its first 17 games nearly unscathed, perhaps Warren Central was due for a bad outing.

St. Frederick, La., scored seven runs on only one hit in the fourth inning Tuesday against the Lady Vikes, taking advantage of WC ace Lauren Anderson’s uncharacteristic wildness to claim an 8-1 win.

WC (16-2) led 1-0 after three innings, but in the top of the fourth, Anderson hit two batters, walked three, threw two wild pitches and gave up an RBI single to Kristy Addison before giving way to Brittany Fuller as St. Frederick (14-10) took a 7-1 lead. Two WC errors also contributed to the rally.

“We didn’t come back and hit,” said WC coach Lucy Young, whose team had won 14 straight. “This is a good reality check to remind us that we have to come mentally prepared.”

Katie Barnett went 2-for-4 with an RBI single for WC, and Cookie Johnson went 2-for-3.

St. Al 10, Puckett 4

Laura Beth Lyons was unlucky for Puckett. She struck out 13 to lead the Lady Flashes (8-2) to their third straight division win. Leslie Dyess had two hits, a single and two stolen bases and Allison Hearn had a pair of hits for St. Al, which scored four late runs after Puckett pulled with 6-4.

Candace Park drove in three runs while Kelly Haden had an RBI double and Sarah Kerut, Anna Fulcher and Danielle Klaus all delivered RBI singles.

Jill Stryron allowed nine hits in the loss. Lyons (3-0) gave up just four hits but walked seven.

St. Al will face Pearl at 8 a.m. Saturday in the Clinton Tournament, then play at 12:30 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.
