HOWARD R. CLARK

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Howard R. Clark, formerly of Vicksburg, died Saturday, March 16, 2002. He was 92.

Mr. Clark had lived in Jacksonville, Fla., since 1983. He retired from the U.S Geological Survey in 1972 and was an Army veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Nell B. Clark; a sister, Ruby C. Meacham of Bethesda, Md.; a brother, Edward L. Clark Jr. of Vicksburg; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Services were March 20 at Mandarin Cemetery in Jacksonville under the direction of Hardage-Giddens Chapel.

Memorials may be made to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.

VALERIE SHELLEY JEFFERSON

Services for Valerie Shelley “Val” Jefferson will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Frank Gardner Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Jefferson died Sunday, March 24, 2002, at her home. She was 43.

Mrs. Jefferson was a cashier at Wal-Mart SuperCenter. She was a member of Evergreen M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Alberta Rowster; her grandmother, Olivia Barnes; and a grandchild.

She is survived by her husband, James Jefferson Sr. of Vicksburg; two sons, Aaron Jefferson and James Jefferson Jr., both of Vicksburg; two daughters, Beletra Jefferson and Antoinette Brown, both of Vicksburg; five brothers, Hansel Shelley, Timothy Rowster and William Rowster, all of Vicksburg, Lee Cain Shelley of Dallas, Texas, and Jimmy Rowster of Milwaukee, Wis.; six sisters, Gail Gleese, Linda Barnett and Doristine Rowster, all of Vicksburg, Celestine Bynum of Redwood, Joanna Atlas of Tunica and Jacqueline Fields of Memphis; her maternal grandfather, Thomas Barnes Jr. of Onward; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

MARY LEE JONES

Services for Mary Lee Jones will be at noon Saturday at Porters Chapel M.B. Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Saturday until the service at the church.

Mrs. Jones died Saturday, March 23, 2002, at her home. She was 83.

Mrs. Jones was a member of Porters Chapel M.B. Church where she was an usher.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Hattie Barnes; a son, Curtis Lee Jones; and three brothers, George Tolliver, Ernest Tolliver and Jim Barnes.

She is survived by her husband, Cornelius Jones of Vicksburg; two daughters, Rosetta Phillips Mitchell of Aurora, Ill., and Beatrice Totten of Justice, Ill.; four sons, Arthur Jones of Vicksburg, Donnell Jones of Seaside, Calif., and Cornelius Jones Jr. and David Lee Jones, both of Aurora; and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-granchildren and other relatives.

LULA MAE PICKETT

ROXIE Lula Mae Pickett died Saturday, March 23, 2002, at Natchez Regional Hospital. She was 50.

Mrs. Pickett was born in Waterproof, La., and was a resident of Roxie. She was a minister and worked as a custodian for the Franklin County School District. She was a member of First Baptist Church Outreach Street Ministries.

She was preceded in death by her father, William Bowie.

She is survived by her husband, Wayne Havard; four sons, Fredrick Lee Bowie and Arthur Pickett Jr., both of Kansas City, Mo., and Jerome Pickett and Gerald Pickett, both of Meadville; her mother, Pearlie Turner of Waterproof; five brothers, William Bowie and Hardy Lee Bowie, both of New Orleans, Herman Bowie of Angola, La., Larnell Turner of Kansas City and Marshall Bowie of Liberty; three sisters, Idell Bowie of Meadville, Mattie Washington of Roxie and Alice Turner of Danville, Ill.; and two grandchildren, friends and other relatives, including Roosevelt Havard and Sonestra Williams.

Services will be at noon Saturday at Mount Olive M.B. Church in Kirby with the Rev. Luther Bonds Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Mount Olive Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at Rollins Chapel in Fayette.

Pallbearers will be Henry Bowie, Gary Bowie, Rayfield Vaughn, Albert Hunt, Glen Cameron, Douglas Dunn and Hardy Lee Bowie Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will be Fredrick Lee Bowie, Arthur Pickett Jr., Gerald Pickett, Terrance Jerome Pickett, William Bowie, Herman Bowie, Hardy Lee Bowie, Marshall Bowie and Larnell Turner.

INEZ WALLS

PORT GIBSON Inez Walls died Tuesday, March 26, 2002, at Claiborne County Hospital. She was 62.

Mrs. Walls was preceded in death by her parents, Leon Armstrong and Pearlia Nash-Minor; a son, Leon Walls; and a grandson, James Rowan.

She is survived by four sons, Paul Walls, Otis Walls and John Walls, all of Port Gibson, and Andrew Walls of Jackson; a daughter, Jacqueline Berry of Port Gibson; two brothers, Morris Minor Jr. and Nathaniel Minor, both of Port Gibson; two sisters, Dorothy Curry of Port Gibson and Mariah Bronson, both of Indianapolis, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at New Come and See Baptist Church in the Engleside community with the Rev. James Nash officiating. Burial will follow at Engleside Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson and from noon Saturday until the service at the church.
