MARY SCOTT CHAMBERS

Mary Scott Chambers died Saturday, March 30, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 54.

Mrs. Chambers retired as a school teacher, having served in Lake Providence and Sharkey County. She was a member of the Church of Christ on Mission 66, St. John Benevolent Society and NEA.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Scott, and a sister, Erma Scott.

Survivors include two daughters, Shellon Chambers Wilson and Natalie Chambers, both of Vicksburg; two brothers, James Scott Jr. of Vicksburg and Clarence Scott of Terry; one sister, Rosa Scott Sanders of Vicksburg; one grandson, Joshua Scott Wilson of Vicksburg; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives, including members of the Scott, Chambers, Regan, Walker, Williams and Neal families of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Tommy Brown officiating.

JAROD DANIEL CLARK

Jarod Daniel Clark died Saturday, March 30, 2002, at University Medical Center in Jackson. He was 20.

He was born in Bremerton, Wash., and had lived in Vicksburg since 1984. He graduated fourth in his class from Vicksburg High School in 1999. He was a member of the Quiz Bowl team for four years, serving as captain his senior year. He was a soccer letterman and member of Mu Alpha Theta, the National Honor Society and Key Club.

He was a sophomore at Mississippi State University, where he was pursuing a civil engineering degree. He participated in the co-op program and worked at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District for three semesters. At MSU, he was a member of Phi Eta Sigma and Golden Key national honor societies and Alpha Theta Chi collegiate honor society. He participated in intramural sports, including soccer and frisbee.

He was preceded in death by grandmothers Patricia A. Clark and Ruth Isbell.

Survivors include his mother, Pamela D. Clark of Vicksburg; his father, Robert L. Clark of Lake Charles, La.; his maternal grandparents, Dillard and Dorothy Wright of Mantee, Miss.; and other relatives, including Jim and Denise Wright and Merrin Elizabeth Wright, all of Columbus, Miss.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Potter officiating.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Watkins, Niraj Vanmali, Kristin Chapman, Ryan Stinson, Brett Haley, Blake Haley, Keith Guillot, Megan Tubman and Stephanie Martin.

BERNICE O. JOHNSON

Bernice O. “Totts” Johnson died Saturday, March 30, 2002, at her home. She was 62.

Mrs. Johnson was a lifelong resident of Warren County. She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie and Bertha Dobbs, and a daughter, Brenda Lee Johnson.

She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Acuff and Susan Nowell, both of Vicksburg; two sons, Billy Joe Harrison of Vicksburg and Kenneth Harrison of Lumberton; two sisters, Ernestine Howard and Geraldine Boone, both of Vicksburg; and grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Michael Paul Sanderford, Danny Paul Sanderford, Robert Capp Sr., Robert Capp Jr., Victor Hollowell and Michael Hollowell.

DORIS CUMMINGS VANCE

Services for Doris Cummings Vance will be at 2 p.m. today at Glenwood Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. John G. McCall and the Revs. James Hess and Eric Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Vance died Friday, March 29, 2002. She was 79.

Mrs. Vance was born in Yazoo County and lived in Vicksburg for more than 60 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She was retired from the Holiday Inn, where she promoted tourism for the City of Vicksburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mayor Travis Thomas Vance Sr., and seven brothers and sisters.

She is survived by a daughter, Doris Jean Vance of North Little Rock, Ark.; two sons, Travis Wayne Vance Sr. and Travis Thomas Vance Jr., both of Vicksburg; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Travis Wayne Vance Jr., Joseph Amberg, James E. Stirgus Sr., Gene Allen, Charles McKinnie, Walter May, John Baker, J.B. Haden, Leslie Newton and Danny Butler.

Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Alexander, Steve Cook, Joe Gerache, Freddy Abraham, Raymond May, Ron Camino, Wayne Roberts, Ernest Krueger, Jim Hobson, Billy Joe Quimby, Jimmy Gouras, Charlie Miller, Johnny Puckett, Ben Yancy, Harold Alexander and Alfred Moody.
