BURNETTE THELMA ARNESON

TALLULAH Burnette Thelma Arneson died Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at Olive Branch Senior Care Center. She was 84.

Mrs. Arneson was born in Joice, Iowa. She received a degree in textiles and clothing from Iowa State College in 1939. She was employed by the USDA Extension Service, where she composed sewing publications. She modeled for Marshall Fields in Chicago and also worked as a fashion designer for movie stars in Hollywood, Calif.

She retired to Tallulah in 1978.

Mrs. Arneson was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence O. Arneson and Bertina B. Arneson, and a brother, Stanley Arneson.

She is survived by a brother, Charles O. Arneson of Monroe, La.; two nephews, Gary Arneson and Robert Arneson, both of Tallulah; and cousins, friends and other relatives, including Alice Gaumnitz and Arlice Morris, both of Tallulah, and Mavis Bledsoe of Colorado.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Fred Fulton officiating.

WHITNEY PEARLIE BROWN

WICHITA, Kan. Services for Whitney Pearlie Brown will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Mincer Minor Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Brown died Monday, March 25, 2002, at Veterans Administration Hospital in Wichita, Kan. He was 72.

Mr. Brown was born in Union Church. He was a veteran of the Army, having served in World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Brown Sr. and Mary Lou McNair Brown; four brothers, Henry Brown Sr., Claude Brown, Samuel Brown and John Brown; two sisters, Lula Mae Brown Stampley and Annie Brown Ward; and his maternal grandparents, Lettie Miller and Lynch McNair.

He is survived by three brothers, Jack Brown Jr. of Los Angeles and Charlie Brown and Robert Clark, both of Vicksburg; his sister, Laura Brown Anderson of Vicksburg; nieces; nephews; and other relatives, including the Brown, Lacey and Anderson families of Vicksburg.

MARY SCOTT CHAMBERS

Services for Mary Scott Chambers will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mission 66 Church of Christ with Tommy Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from noon Saturday until the service at the church.

Mrs. Chambers died Saturday, March 30, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 54.

Mrs. Chambers retired as a school teacher in Lake Providence and Sharkey County. She was a member of the Church of Christ on Mission 66, St. John Benevolent Society and MAE.

She was preceded in death by her father and her mother, James Scott and Ruth Davis Scott, and a sister, Erma Scott.

Survivors include two daughters, Shellon Chambers Wilson and Natalie Chambers, both of Vicksburg; two brothers, James Scott Jr. of Vicksburg and Clarence Scott of Terry; one sister, Rosa Scott Sanders of Vicksburg; one grandson, Joshua Scott Wilson of Vicksburg; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives, including members of the Scott, Chambers, Regan, Walker, Williams, Sanders, Neal and Marbra families of Vicksburg and Port Gibson.

OLA FERGUSON SULLIVAN

Ola Ferguson Sullivan died Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at Trace Haven Nursing Home. She was 78.

A native of Pearl, Mrs. Sullivan lived in Bolivar County for a number of years and had been a Vicksburg resident most of her life. She worked as a licensed practical nurse at Kuhn Memorial Hospital and later at Vicksburg Medical Center.

With her husband, she worked in the food service business and as a caterer. They moved to Robertsdale, Ala., and returned to Vicksburg in 1999. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Henry Sullivan Jr.; her parents, James Preston and Jane Gatlin Ferguson; and six brothers.

Survivors include a son, Charles Livingston of Foley, Ala.; two daughters, Marjorie Martin and Geraldine McPhail, both of Vicksburg; two sisters, Zelma F. Allen of Cleveland, Miss., and Myra F. Knight of Indianola; and three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Paul Catholic Church with the Revs. Bill James and Thomas McGing officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. Friday until the service at Glenwood Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Joe Adams, Frank Weaver II, Sidney Tucker, Hubert Stroud, Alvin Harrison, Dwight Baker, Mike Bryant and Garnet Van Norman.

Honorary pallbearers will be Aaron Cosby, George S. Jones, Bobby Adams and Dr. James Moore.

ELISE L. WHITLATCH

ROLLING FORK Elise L. Whitlatch died Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at Sharkey-Issaquena Hospital in Rolling Fork. She was 95.

Mrs. Whitlatch had lived in Rolling Fork for the past 45 years. A retired nurse’s aide, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Rolling Fork.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter E. Whitlatch Sr.; a son, Walter E. Whitlatch Jr.; and a daughter, Mary Sue Hale.

Survivors include a son, Charles Whitlatch of Hudson, N.C.; four daughters, Oleita Stuart and Juanita Martin, both of Rolling Fork, Josephine Lofton of Gladewater, Texas, and Dorothy Hale of Camden, Ark.; and 31 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Rolling Fork with the Revs. Millard L. Caulder and Reese Kyzar officiating. Burial will follow at Mound Cemetery in Rolling Fork.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
