HORACE W. CLARK
Horace W. Clark died Thursday, April 18, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. He was 86.
A native of the Crossroads community in Claiborne County, Mr. Clark had lived in Vicksburg most of his life. He retired from Miss-Lou Equipment as a mechanic after 30 years. He was a member of Harmony Hunting Club and attended Eagle Lake United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha E. Clark; his twin brother; five sisters; and a grandson, James “Jay” Stanford.
He is survived by two daughters, Patsy Jo Stanford and Pat Burton, both of Vicksburg; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Haggard officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Martin Halloran III, Michael Halloran, David Burton, Nathan Burton, A.J. Beard and Joseph Beard.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of Harmony Hunting Club, Sonny Penley, Robert Parker, David Daniels, Robert Crow, Bob Templeton, Bill Parker and Dr. Daniel P. Edney.
HAZEL McDANIEL GOTTAL
Hazel McDaniel Gottal died Thursday, April 18, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 84.
Born in Silver City, Mrs. Gottal had lived in Straight Bayou for a number of years and Leland from 1950 until 1997, she had lived in Vicksburg since 1997. She was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church in Leland.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert M. Webb and Louis Gottal.
She is survived by her son, John R. Webb of San Antonio, Texas; her daughter, Patsy Webb Douglas of Vicksburg; her brother, L.R. McDaniel of Kilmichael; her sister, Dorothy M. Gilbert of Lebanon, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Leland Scott Lanford of Greenville and Kenneth Lee Lanford of Vicksburg; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Greenville with the Rev. S.B. Boyett officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Barry Acy, Ronnie Jacks, Richard Manning, Douglas O’Neal Hearn, Sanfrid Shaifer, Raymond Paul Lanford, Justin Lanford and Ronnie Lee.
KENNETH F. GROGAN JR.
Kenneth Forbes Grogan Jr. died Thursday, April 18, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. He was 80.
Born in Edwards, Mr. Grogan attended school there before joining the Civilian Conservation Corps. He served during World War II as a member of the 2nd Armored Division, Co. H, 66th Armored Regiment during the invasion of Europe and North Africa. He earned letters of commendation from the commanding general of the Army for rescuing wounded fellow crew members during the Battle of Sicily.
He was employed with Auto Supply Inc. for 20 years and he owned and operated Grogan’s Texaco Service Station from 1966 until his retirement in April 2000. He was a member of Lost Tom Hunting Club and Dry Bayou Hunting Club for 37 years, he also hunted at Ashland Hunting Club and was a member of Lake Claiborne.
He was a member of First Presbyterian church for more than 50 years and served as an elder. He was also a member of the VFW and the Second Armored Division Association.
He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Forbes Grogan Sr.; his mother, Elfie Bigby Grogan; and a sister, Bess Butts.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Inez McNeely Grogan of Vicksburg; his son, Kenneth Forbes Grogan III of Vicksburg; his daughter, Mary Beth Grogan White of Vicksburg; three brothers, Barney Ray Grogan of Cedar Hill, Texas, Dr. Jack Grogan of Raymond and William Nolan Grogan of Canton; five sisters, Barbara Oberhausen and Patricia Bain, both of Raymond, Lucile Batson of Jackson, Jean Ramsey of Clinton and Vera Spikes of Terry; three grandchildren, Kenneth Forbes Grogan IV and Laura Katherine “Katie” Grogan, both of Vicksburg, and Austen White of Bolton; and other relatives, including Ben White and Anne Grogan.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Steven Bryant officiating. Burial will follow at Edwards Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 until 6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Forbes Grogan IV, Freddie R. Hutton, Frank J. Campbell, William F. Campbell, Joseph Lane Campbell, W. David Blackledge, Jerry M. Hall, Matthew Evans Hicks and Wilbur W. “Sonny” Harpole.

Grogan, Harold Soverns, Walter Hallberg Jr., Jim McNeely, Ralph McNeely Jr., Dr. Bill Pierce, Jimmy Glisson, Bill Downey, Dr. Milton Farr, James G. Horn Sr., Thomas Askew, Sidney K. Askew, Wilson McClain, Sonny McClain and David Vanderberry.

MARY FRANCES NEAL
Services for Mary Frances Neal will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bypass Church of Christ. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Williams Funeral Service.
Mrs. Neal died Sunday, April 14, 2002, at her home in Vicksburg. She was 53.
Mrs. Neal was a member of Bypass Church of Christ. She was a retired school teacher with the Vicksburg Warren School District.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George Murphy and Luvenia Shaw Murphy; and a brother, Jimmy Murphy.
She is survived by her husband, Tom Neal Jr. of Vicksburg; two sons, Eric Randall Neal of Kennesaw, Ga., and Anthony Sean Neal of Riverdale, Ga.; three brothers, Percy Murphy of Jackson, Eddie Murphy of Milwaukee, Wis., and Johnny Murphy of Orlando, Fla.; four sisters, Elizabeth Murphy Benson of Union, Ga., Lillie Ruth Walls of San Marea, Calif., Georgia Marie Carter of Decatur, Ga., and Martha Rhodes of Memphis; four grandchildren; and other relatives.
SHERENA MINICE TARVIN
TALLULAH Memorial services for Sherena Minice Tarvin will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses with Gabe Raggio officiating.
Miss Tarvin died Monday, April 15, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 22.
A resident of Tallulah, she was a 1998 graduate of McCall Senior High School. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness.
She was a minister and certified nurse’s assistant.
She is survived by her parents, W.D. Tarvin and Shellie Blakely Tarvin, both of Tallulah; one brother, Jonathan Douglas Tarvin of New York, N.Y.; one sister, Edina E.J. Tarvin of Tallulah; and uncles, aunts and cousins.
