WALTER D. BARFIELD

Walter D. Barfield died Saturday, April 27, 2002, in Jackson. He was 74.

Born in Hattiesburg, Mr. Barfield had lived in Vicksburg most of his life. He was retired from the U.S. Government General Service Administration. He was a World War II veteran of the Navy. He was a member of First Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Haver Barfield of Vicksburg; two sons, Walter A. Barfield of Lacey, Wash., and David A. Barfield of Madison; his brother, Alfred Barfield of Vicksburg; his sister, Janice Barfield of Vicksburg ; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas Foy officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Micah Barfield, Al Barfield, A.D. Barfield, Lanny Barfield, Brent Barfield, Thurston Foy and Russell Reeves.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Barfield, Dewey Gayle, Robert Haver and Randy Haver.

Memorials may be made to the Central Mississippi Alzheimer’s Association.

HELEN JONES DEAN

Services for Helen Jones Dean will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Glenwood Funeral Home with Dr. John G. McCall and the Rev. Jim Hess officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. today until the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Dean died Thursday, April 25, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 90.

She was born in Smith County, Miss., and lived in Vicksburg for 71 years. She was a retired employee of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Vicksburg where she was director of the cradle roll department.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold M. Dean Sr.

She is survived by a son, Arnold M. Dean Jr., of Fort Belvoir, Va.; a daughter, Dottie D. Rankin of Vicksburg, and six grandchildren, Ben Bryant, Jessie Bryant, Derek Dean, Mason Dean, Dylan Dean and Christian Dean.

Pallbearers will be Jessie Bryant, Ben Bryant, Leiland Duke, Robert Peters, John Palmerton and Bubba Evans.

Honorary pallbearers will be Clyde McAuley, John Strange, J.W. Carter and Fred Baldwin.

JOSEPH S. McKINLEY

BRANDON Joseph S. “Joe” McKinley died Saturday, April 27, 2002, at his home in Brandon. He was 50.

A native of Vicksburg, Mr. McKinley graduated from H.V. Cooper High School. He later moved to Jackson where he graduated from Belhaven College. He was a retired fish farm manager with Hill-Fisher Farms of Belzoni. He was a member of Hollandale Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, George B. McKinley.

He is survived by his wife, Adrian Crawford McKinley of Brandon; his daughter, Suzanne R. McKinley of Brandon; his son, Eric C. McKinley of Dallas; his mother, Eleanor L. McKinley of Vicksburg; two sisters, Sarah Flanagan of Utica and Jeanna Niemeyer of Lumberton; and his brother, Burney McKinley of Vicksburg.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today at Hollandale Baptist Church under the direction of Mark Seepe Funeral Home of Jackson.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. today until the service and for one hour following the service at the church.

JOSHUA RICHARDSON SR.

Joshua Richardson Sr. died Thursday, April 25, 2002, at his home. He was 79.

Mr. Richardson was a retired employee of Wells & LaHatte. He was a World War II veteran of the Navy. He was a member of the House of Israel.

He was preceded in death by a son, Vernon “Buck” Richardson; three daughters, Debra Richardson, Mona Vaughn and Betty Stephney; his parents, Joshua Richardson and Annie Morris; and an uncle, Cleve Jones.

He is survived by his wife, Vera Richardson of Aurora, Ill.; six sons, Leon Richardson and Joshua Richardson Jr., both of Vicksburg, Michael Richardson of Illinois and Tony Richardson, Darryl Richardson and Shawn Richardson, all of Aurora, Ill.; four daughters Carolyn Smith, Darlene Richardson and Cherrie Richardson, all of Aurora, and Debra Smith of Vicksburg; three sisters; 55 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at New Hope M.B. Church in Bovina with the Rev. Frank Gardner Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at New Hope Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Tuesday until the service at the church.
