JO ANNA BRUCE
Jo Anna Bruce died Saturday, May 4, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 56.
Mrs. Bruce was a member of Holly Grove M.B. Church and a retired nurse.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Parvis Bruce Jr.; her father, Johnny B. Frazier; and a son, Rodney Bruce.
Mrs. Bruce is survived by a son, Ray Bruce of River Rouge, Mich.; her mother, Letha Mae Wilson Thomas of Vicksburg; a brother, James Earl Frazier of River Rouge; three sisters, Clara D. Frazier of Vicksburg, Johnnie E. Frazier of Amherst, Va., and Ella Mae McCoy-Cannady of Colorado Springs, Col.; seven aunts; six uncles; and several other relatives.
W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
JAMES WILLIAM CARLEY
James William “Bill” Carley died Saturday, May 4, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. He was 67.
Mr. Carley was a former resident of Electric Mill, Miss., and had lived in Vicksburg since 1967.
He retired from International Paper Co. after 40 years as a machinist and maintenance foreman.
Mr. Carley was a member of Porters Chapel United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Floyd and Maybelle Holbrook Carley.
Mr. Carley is survived by his wife, Louise Carley of Vicksburg; three sons, James Rick Carley, William Mike Carley and Gregory S. “Greg” Carley, all of Vicksburg; a sister, Mary Floore of Macon, Ga.; two brothers, John Carley of Mobile, Ala., and Richard Carley of Columbus, Miss.; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home.
Burial will be at Green Acres Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday from 1 p.m. until the hour of the service.
Pallbearers are Richard Hanks, Ray McLaurin, Walter Montgomery, Ken Tatum, Charles Sanders and Bill Brister.
Honorary pallbearers are C. T. Causey, Gwinn Taylor, Bobby Richardson, Howard Austin, James Bass, Dr. Paul Pierce and Paul Carrico.
LOUISE WEIR GREER
PORT GIBSON Louise Weir Greer died Friday, May 3, 2002, at Claiborne County Hospital. She was 70.
Mrs. Greer was a Lincoln County native who lived in Ferriday, La., for about 25 years before moving to Port Gibson.
She was a member of Easthaven Baptist Church in Brookhaven.
Mrs. Greer was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Greer; and her father, Frank Weir.
She is survived by a brother, Elmo Weir of Hanceville, Ala.; her mother, Lessie Weir of Port Gibson; two sisters, Mary Evelyn Trevilion of Port Gibson and Frankie Clemts of Purvis; and other relatives.
Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Glenwood Funeral Home Chapel in Port Gibson. Burial will be at Ruth Cemetery at 3 p.m.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Monday from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service.
ALICE H. SPENCER
CHICAGO Alice H. Spencer died Saturday, May 4, 2002, at St. Anthony Hospital in Chicao. She was 93.
Mrs. Spencer was a retired cafeteria worker and a former Vicksburg resident.
She was a member of Pleasant Green M.B. Church and a member of the NAACP.
Mrs. Spencer was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Spencer; two sisters, Lula Mae Hall Logan and Susie Hall; two brothers, Walker Hall Jr. and Tom Hall.
She is survived by two brothers, Anthony Mohamed Hall and Roosevelt Hall, both of Chicago; and several other relatives, including Doretha Williams, Joree McKinney and Herman Coleman, all of Chicago.
