CELIA SMITH ANDERSON

PORT GIBSON Celia Smith Anderson died Monday, May 27, 2002, at her home in Port Gibson. She was 87.

Mrs. Anderson was a member and mother at Mercy Seat M.B. Church in Port Gibson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hattie Wardley Smith and Spencer Smith; her husband, Charlie Anderson Sr.; two sisters, Florence Burns and Mary Anderson; and a brother, William Wardley.

She is survived by six sons, L.J. Anderson of Greenville, Arthur Levi Anderson and Sylvester Anderson, both of Port Gibson, Jonathan Anderson of San Diego, Calif., and Charlie Anderson Jr. and Stanley Anderson, both of Cleveland, Ohio; 10 daughters, Jessie B. Williams of Campton, La., Emma L. Anderson of Silver Spring, Mass., and Hattie Turnipseed, Bobbie Jones, Lucille Hyder, Helen Duffin, Shirley Wilson, Mary Young, Charlene Mobley and Wanda F. Anderson, all of Port Gibson; a sister, Emily Milton of Vicksburg; a brother, Sylvester Wardley of Vicksburg; 79 grandchildren; 144 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mercy Seat M.B. Church with the Rev. Frank McGriggs officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home Inc. in Port Gibson and from 1 p.m. Saturday until the service at the church.

GARY ANDREWS

JACKSON Gary Andrews died Friday, May 24, 2002. He was 25.

Mr. Andrews was a resident of Jackson.

He is survived by his mother, Janice Andrews of Jackson; his father, Aubrey Holmes of Port Gibson; a daughter, Segirra Hughes of Jackson; his maternal grandmother, Annie Mae Andrews-King of Utica; his paternal grandmother, Irene Holmes of Port Gibson; three brothers, Carlos Henderson, Michael Andrews and Nicholas Ward, all of Jackson; a sister, Trena Holmes-Green of Vicksburg; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including Desiree Duffy of Jackson.

Services will be at 2 p.m., Sunday at Belmont M.B. Church in Utica with Rev. Phillip Banks officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at Thompson Funeral Home Inc. in Port Gibson and from 1 p.m. Saturday until the service at the church.

ALMA RUTH BLAND-DUNKERSON

MILWAUKEE, Wis. Alma Ruth Bland-Dunkerson died Sunday, May 26, 2002, at Middle Georgia Hospital in Macon, Ga. She was 62.

Mrs. Dunkerson was a school teacher in Greenville, Hawaii and Indianapolis before moving to Milwaukee. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Golden Circle and Milwaukee Public School Teachers Association. She was a former member of Pleasant Grove Church in Edwards and a member of Union Hill Baptist Church in Milwaukee. She attended school at Edwards Junior High School and Utica Institute Junior College. She received her bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Tougaloo College.

She was preceded in death by her father, Percy Bland; and a brother, Larry N. Bland.

She is survived by her husband, Herman L. Dunkerson Sr. of Milwaukee; her son, Herman L. Dunkerson Jr. of Milwaukee; her daughters, Mimi Michelle Dunkerson of Milwaukee; her mother and stepfather, Walter and Marie Allen Willis of Gary, Ind.; her stepmother, Annie M. Bland of Edwards; three brothers, Percy L. Bland of Jackson and Oliver R. Bland of Milwaukee and Curtis M. Bland of College Park, Ga.; five sisters, Annie L. Bland-Armstrong of Memphis, Zinnia L. Bland of Warrensburg, Mo., Vivian D. Bland-Bracey of Edwards and Jeanette Bland and Lynda M. Bland-Thomas, both of Jackson; and other relatives and friend, including Maynoie Reed of Edwards and Jackie May Anderson Lewis of Bolton.

Services will be at noon Friday at Word of Faith Christian Center in Jackson.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. today at the Lakeover Funeral Home in Jackson.

CHARLIE KELLY JR.

Charlie “Man” Kelly Jr. died Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at his home. He was 72.

A lifelong resident of Warren County, Mr. Kelly worked as a machine operator and was a member of Hickory Tree Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ledora Franklin Kelly; a son, Bobby Kelly; and sisters and brothers.

Survivors include a son, Larry Kelly of Vicksburg; three daughters, Gwendolyn Kelly George, Mary Meeks and Jessica Erves, all of Vicksburg; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, and other relatives, including members of the Prentiss family.

Robbins Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

ELMA P. ROBERTS

BELZONI Elma P. Roberts died Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at Covington County Hospital. He was 86.

Mrs. Roberts was a charter member of Liberty Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Lee Roberts; and two sons, Paul Jackson Roberts and James Eugene Roberts.

She is survived by five daughters, Bobbye R. Byrd of Vicksburg, Carolyn R. Kent of Clinton, Bonnie Brown of Laurel, Connie Paxton of Inverness and Mona J. Wise of Bogue Chitto; four sons, Bill K. Roberts of Jackson, Edward A. Roberts of Collins and Sam L. Roberts and Walter G. Roberts, both of Isola; two sisters, Bernice Kendrick of McGehee, Ark., and Bennie Thermond of Bastrop, La.; 26 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Liberty Baptist Church with Doug Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Belzoni City Cemetery under the direction of Mortimer Funeral Home of Belzoni.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

OLLIE H. WILLIAMS

Ollie H. Williams died Monday, May 27, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 102.

A homemaker, Mrs. Williams was a member of King David No. 1 M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Williams; and her parents, Willie Preston and Harriet Preston.

She is survived by her sister, Bessie Troy of Los Angeles; her niece and caregiver, Alberta Mays of Vicksburg; and other relatives, including Frank Crump Jr. and the Gibson and Boykin families, all of Vicksburg, and the Cowans family of Yokena.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

DANIEL WILSON

Services for Daniel Wilson will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Peter M.B. Church with the Rev. Melvin Bolden officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 6 until 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Wilson died Saturday, May 25, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. He was 94.

Mr. Wilson retired with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers having served on M.V. Jadwin. He was also a former employee of The Vicksburg Post. He was a member of St. Peter M.B. Church and Sunshine Lodge No. 49 AF&AM.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Robinson Wilson; a son, Adam Wilson; a daughter, Evelyn Wilson; his father, Charlie Wilson; his mother, Louise Fisher Wilson; four brothers, Phillip Wilson, Walter Wilson, Roosevelt Wilson and John Wilson; and two sisters, Amanda Wilson and Lucille Brooks.

He is survived by two sons, Walter Wilson of Newark, N.J., and Joe Wilson of Vicksburg; his daughter, Ruby Mae Ross of Los Angeles; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
