[06/12/02]The Vicksburg Missy Gators suffered a 45-40 loss to McLaurin in a summer league game Tuesday night, then got a little help from a power failure to salvage a split of the doubleheader.

Vicksburg led Hinds AHS 24-7 shortly before halftime of the evening’s second game when the lights in the Vicksburg High gym flickered and went out.

The power outage didn’t last long, but it was enough to bring the game to a halt and give Vicksburg its third win of the summer.

“When the lights came back on, they were already out in the parking lot,” Vicksburg coach Mike Coleman said.

WC 55, C. Springs 48

Warren County got 16 points from Ebon Williams and 12 from Cookie Johnson to win its opener over Crystal Springs in the 17-and-under division of the Warren County Invitational at Warren Central.

Warren County will face the Natchez Waves in the second round on Thursday at 8:15 p.m. Admission is $3.

WC 36, Warren Jr. 31

Dominique Good scored 10 points to lead Warren County to a win over Warren Junior 1 in the junior high division of the Warren County Invitational. Shantta Taylor led Warren Junior with 11 points.

Warren County will face Warren Junior 2 Thursday at 5:45 p.m. The Natchez Waves beat Warren Junior 2 in the first round, 37-13.
