In honor of the flag

Vicksburg National Military Park Curator Elizabeth Joyner’s silhouette is seen through the American flag as she lowers it Thursday in the National Cemetery. The 9-by-17 flag flies seven days a week from sunrise to sunset. The flag pole is patterned after a naval mast in honor of a number of naval veterans buried in the cemetery, Joyner said. At 7 tonight, Americans across the United States will say the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag in honor of Flag Day.(The Vicksburg Post/MELANIE DUNCAN)
