LAINA ELIZABETH BAGBY

BAY CITY, Texas Laina Elizabeth Bagby died Sunday, June 9, 2002, in College Station, Texas. She was 18.

Miss Bagby was born in Vicksburg and graduated from Bay City High School in Texas, where she was a member of the Drama Club and Girls Interact Club. She was a freshman at Southwest Texas University in San Marcos.

She was a member of Family Worship Center, where she participated in the youth group.

She is survived by her parents, Greg and Maxine “Scat” Cappaert Bagby of Bay City and formerly of Vicksburg; two sisters, Blair Bagby and Brooke Bagby, both of Austin, Texas; her paternal grandfather, Claude W. Bagby of Vicksburg; her maternal grandmother, Lynn Cappaert of Vicksburg; and other relatives.

Services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Bay City. Burial followed at Cedarvale Cemetery under the direction of Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Drew Ashcraft, Dustin Cloutier, Josh Gordon, Bryan Meyer, Daniel Trevino and A.J. Vargas.

LOUISE BUCK

PORT GIBSON Louise Buck died Wednesday, June 12, 2002, at University Medical Center in Jackson. She was 90.

Mrs. Buck was a member of Greater St. Mark M.B. Church, where she served in the choir and as a church mother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elliott Williams and Mariah Johnson-Williams; a daughter, Ida Shinall; and a son, Joseph Monroe.

Survivors include two sons, David Monroe of Port Gibson and Robert Johnson of Columbus, Ohio; a daughter, Princess Buck Shinall of Port Gibson; a sister, Annie Goods of Port Gibson; 21 grandchildren; 72 great-grandchildren; 37 great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Greater St. Mark M.B. Church with the Rev. Leon Howard officiating. Burial will follow at Carbondale Cemetery in the Westside community.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Saturday at Thompson Funeral Home Inc. of Port Gibson and from 2 p.m. Sunday until the service at the church.

LOUIS BUCKNER

TALLULAH Louis Buckner died Thursday, June 13, 2002, at Madison Parish Hospital. He was 75.

Born in Tallulah, Mr. Buckner was a certified public accountant. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division from 1944 until 1946. He was a member of the American Legion Post 100 and of The Church At Tallulah.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Nadler Buckner of Tallulah; three sons, Louis Buckner Jr. of Tallulah, Nathan Ellis Buckner of Houston, Texas, and Harry Nadler Buckner of Placquemine, La.; three daughters, Janie Buckner Fabre of Tallulah, Beth Buckner Shelton of Louisville, Texas, and Georgia Buckner of Dallas; two brothers, Edward Aylette Buckner of Vicksburg and William E. Buckner of Tallulah; and 10 grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home in Tallulah with the Rev. Kent Fabre officiating. Burial will follow at Silver Cross Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Bucky Buckner, Billy Buckner, Josiah Fabre, Zadok Fabre, Simeon Fabre and Ben Buckner.

MAMIE COOPER

EDWARDS Mamie Cooper died Thursday, June 6, 2002, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Home. She was 102.

Mrs. Cooper was a former member of Old Oak Ridge M.B. Church and a member of Zion Travelers M.B. Church where she served on the mother board and as group captain.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Cooper; and a daughter, Esther Ruth Cooper.

She is survived by her son, Eddie C. Cooper of Edwards; two daughters, Earnestine Jackson of Saginaw, Mich., and Doris Roberson of Muskegon Heights, Mich.; her sister-in-law, Ida Bell Cross of Vicksburg; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

Services will be at noon Saturday at Greater Zion Travelers Church in Utica. Burial will follow at Henry Cemetery in Edwards.

Visitation will be from 1 until 8 p.m. today at Lakeover Funeral Home in Jackson.

MARCIA HAINER HERRIN

McCOMB Marcia Hainer Herrin died Thursday, June 13, 2002, at University Medical Center in Jackson. She was 74.

Mrs. Herrin was a 1935 graduate of McComb High School. She was mathematics teacher at McComb High School and at schools in Vicksburg, Memphis and Paducah, Ky. She was a member, deacon and elder at First Christian Church and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Bridges Herrin; her parents, Marsh Hainer and Florence Mitchell Hainer; two brothers, William M. Hainer and David N. Hainer; and her sister, Dorothy Hainer.

She is survived by her daughter, Martha Burak of Silver Springs, Md.; her son, Lewis Herrin of McComb; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Hartman Funeral Home in McComb has charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to First Christian Church in McComb or to Horizon Hospice

SAM R. SHIRLEY JR.

MONROE Sam R. Shirley Jr. died Thursday, June 13, 2002, at Glenwood Regional Medical Center in West Monroe. He was 70.

Mr. Shirley was born in Vicksburg where he graduated from Culkin High School. He attended Hinds Community College in Raymond. He was employed in sales most of his life after serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Lakeshore Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Silmon.

He is survived by two sons, Ros Shirley of Calhoun, La., and Pratt Shirley of Raymond; a sister, Jane Wade of Rolling Fork; six grandchildren; and other relatives.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Milhearn Funeral Home in Monroe with the Rev. C.T. Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Twin Cities Memorial Gardens in West Monroe.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Ros Shirley, Pratt Shirley, James Daniell and Merritt Aden.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dooner Wade and Henry Darrington.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
