ED ALLEN JR.

Ed Allen Jr. died Saturday, June 15, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. He was 77.

Mr. Allen was retired from Anderson-Tully Co. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlie Mae Allen; his parents, Eddi Allen Sr. and Annie Bell Allen; two brothers, Virgil Allen and Houston Allen; and a grandmother, Nell Allen.

Survivors include two sons, Charles Hall Jr. and Charles Hall Sr., both of Vicksburg; one brother, Iva Allen of Edwards; four sisters, Reva Dotson of St. Louis, Mo., Marie Willis of Gary, Ind., Maynoia Reed of Edwards and Charlie B. Pritchard of San Diego, Calif.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives, including Daphne Ferguson of Vicksburg.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

LAURA ELIZABETH MARTINDALE CASTELLAW

MEMPHIS Laura Elizabeth Martindale Castellaw died Saturday, June 15, 2002, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis. She was 77.

Mrs. Castellaw was employed with Union Planters Bank. She was a member of Cherokee Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Jack Castellaw of Memphis; her daughter, Vickie Althea McCutchen of Bartlett, Tenn.; her sister, Hazel Buchannan of Vicksburg; her brother, Ted Martindale of Walnut; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Brownsville Funeral Home with the Rev. Bobby Mullins officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

LETHA IRENE HAWSEY

PIONEER, La. Letha Irene Hawsey died Sunday, June 16, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe. She was 74.

Mrs. Hawsey was born in West Carroll Parish. She was a member of New Hope Church of God where she was a Sunday school teacher.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Beatrice Guice.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas Hawsey of Pioneer; three sons, Thomas Larry Hawsey of Anderson, Ind., Danny Hawsey of West Monroe and Kenneth Hawsey of Little Rock, Ark.; her daughter, Linda Smith of Epps, La.; five brothers, Robert Guice of Longview, Texas, Roy Guice of Leesville, La., Clyde Guice and George Guice, both of Minden, La., and Gene Guice of Denver, Colo.; her sister, Mildred Welch of Minden; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at New Hope Church of God in Pioneer with the Revs. Bob Schlemmer, Jerry Salisbury and Ronnie Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Unity Cemetery in Pioneer.

Visitation will be from 6 until 9 tonight at the church.

Pallbearers will be Jerry David Duckworth, Bill Duckworth, Jimmy Copes, Huey Green, Lukie Kemp and Lonnie Green.

Honorary pallbearers will be C.E. Beebe, Marvin Wilson, Ralph Stephens, Robert E. Stevenson, Pete Duckworth and Jerry Duckworth.

CHARLES JACOB JANES

MONROE Charles Jacob Janes died Friday, June 14, 2002, at his home. He was 81.

Mr. Janes was a retired sheet metal mechanic. He was an Army veteran, having served during World War II. He was a member of the Local No. 361.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and two sisters.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Ruth Self Janes of Monroe; two daughters, Carol Spiers of Vicksburg and Patsy Kirkham of Sterlington, La.; three sons, Chuck Janes and Anguilla, David Janes of Dallas, Texas, and Wade Janes of West Monroe; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

Services were Monday at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church with the Rev. Pat Madden officiating. Burial followed at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Paul West, Greg Cox, Mike Roberts, Mike Hobbs, Jack Williams, Douglas Cranford and Miley Ainsworth Jr.

Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Daniel Hutton, Gene Cox, J.B. Sullivan, Charles Gwin, Robert Shumate, Jimmy Seay and Bob Kirkham.

FANNIE E. McNEIL

HARRISBURG, Pa. Fannie E. McNeil died Sunday, June 9, 2002, at Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pa. She was 86.

Mrs. McNeil was born in West Virginia. She was a member of The Jehovah’s Witnesses.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Haywood Clyde Sr. and Herbert McNeil; two daughters, Charlotte L. Thompson and Evelyn L. Beantley; and her parents, Georgianna and Walter Wilson.

Survivors include her son, Haywood H. Clyde Jr. of Harrisburg, Pa.; nine grandchildren, including Ursula Clyde, Patricia Clyde and Lynn Clyde, all of Vicksburg; great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

Services were June 15 in Pennsylvania under the direction of Cremation Society of Pennsylvania.

RICHARD T. SMART

Services for Richard T. Smart were at 10 a.m. today at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home under the direction of Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home of Hattiesburg. Burial followed at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Smart died Saturday, June 15, 2002, at his home in Hattiesburg. He was 76.

He was born in St. Louis, Mo., and was a longtime resident of Vicksburg. He was 1943 graduate of St. Aloysius High School and a 1948 graduate of Tulane University. He was a veteran of the Navy in World War II. He retired in 1986 from Waterways Experiment Station where he was chief of the reports branch of the publication and graphic arts division. He was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Maureen Seay Smart of Hattiesburg; two sons, Michael Smart of Flower Mound, Texas, and Tommy Smart of Robins, Iowa; three daughters, Sylvia Wislocki, Kathy Smart and Becky Montague, all of Hattiesburg; and seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Joe Durst, Paul Schroeder, Donnie Smart, Cliff Gill, Joe Gerache, Al Sherlock and George Hunt.

Honorary pallbearers were Sam Lusco, Ken McCollum, Walter Reynolds and Tim Ables.
