FRANCES HERBERT BAKER
Frances Herbert Baker died Monday, June 24, 2002, at St. Dominic’s Memorial Hospital in Jackson. She was 84.
Mrs. Baker taught at St. Francis Xavier Academy for many years and was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and the St. Paul Altar Society, and she participated in Meals on Wheels.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell C. Baker; three sisters, Sue Baker, Kate Cunningham and Gen Schultz; her nephew, John Cunningham; and her niece, Clara Schultz.
She is survived by four sons, Rip Baker, Tom Baker, Jack Baker and David Baker; her brother, Jim Herbert; and other relatives.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas McGing officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home. Wake service will be at 6:30.
Pallbearers will be Mark Baker, Bryan Baker, Bob Bernard, Bill Ford, Randy Starnes and I.H. “Bootsie” Cunningham.

WILMA HOLICE PROTHRO DICKS
Wilma Holice Prothro Dicks died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at her home. She was 89.
A native of Monroe, Mrs. Dicks had lived in Vicksburg since 1939. She and her husband, the late David Cashel Dicks, owned and operated the concession stand at the Post Office from 1939 until 1987. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, John W. Dicks; and her parents.
She is survived by her daughter, Wilma Ellen Dicks of Maryland; six sons, Robert Dicks of Linden, Tenn., Joseph D. Dicks of Meridian, Eugene A Dicks of Shoreham, N.Y., Charles P. Dicks of Vicksburg, James W. Dicks of Bernardsville, N.J., and Guy B. Dicks of Oak Harbor, Va.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Fisher-Riles Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
THOMAS JOSEPH ERVIN
Thomas Joseph “T.J.” Ervin died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. He was 73.
A native and lifelong resident of Vicksburg, he was the son of the late Eugene Clifton and Mollie McGuffee Erwin. He was a first mate for Souix City, New Orleans Barge Lines and had worked with the Warren County Highway Department. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Eugene Ervin, Otto Ervin, Sidney K. Ervin, James “Jimmy” Ervin and Don Ervin; and three sisters, Bernice E. Branan, Mary E. Lee and Peggy E. Guthrie.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita Ervin of Vicksburg; his son, Wesley Ates of West; and two brothers, Charley Ervin of Vicksburg and Cecil Ervin of Lake Mary, Fla..
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Hill Cemetery with Paul Gaunt officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Fisher-Riles Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 12:30 at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be John Ervin, Mike Ervin, Wayne Lee, Gene Branan, Otto Branan and Michael Rollison.
Honorary pallbearers will be William Earl Guthrie, Daniel Branan, Michael Caldwell, Steven Caldwell and members of the Church of Christ.
HELEN M. PILATE
Services for Helen M. Pilate will be at noon Thursday at Greater Mount Lebanon M.B. Church on Alpine Street with the Rev. Larry Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at the church.
Mrs. Pilate died Friday, June 21, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 72.
She was a member of Greater Mount Lebanon Baptist Church and Honeysuckle Homemakers Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Pilate; parents, William Marshall and Thelma Templeton Marshall; brother William “Rashad” Marshall and sisters Jewel Marshall and Barbara Wince.
She is survived by two sons, Roderick J. Pilate of Vicksburg and Darryl T. Pilate of Chicago; two daughters, Johnna H. Pilate of Jackson and Tammye P. Christmas of Vicksburg; a sister, Marilyn Patterson of Vicksburg; six grandchildren and other relatives.
ULYSSES C. SHELLEY
Ulysses C. “June” Shelley died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. He was 19.
Mr. Shelley was senior at Warren Central High School where he was a member of the JROTC and the manager of the track team.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, William and Alberta Rowster; and his paternal grandparents, James and Ikie Lee Hardie.
He is survived by his mother, Gail Shelley Gleese of Vicksburg; his father, Ulysses Hardie of St. Louis, Mo.; his stepfather, Alfred Davis of Vicksburg; four brothers, Terrence Shelley, Jefferey Shelley, Shannon Shelley and Stanley Gleese Jr., all of Vicksburg; four sisters, LaTonya Shelley, Alicia Gleese, Vonda Gleese and Kenyatta Foster, all of Vicksburg; and other relatives.
W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
