WILMA HOLICE PROTHRO DICKS

Services for Wilma Holice Prothro Dicks will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas McGing, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home. Wake will be at 6:30.

Mrs. Dicks died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at her home. She was 89.

A native of Monroe, she had lived in Vicksburg since 1939. She and her husband, the late David Cashel Dicks, owned and operated the concession stand at the Post Office from 1939 until 1987. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, John W. Dicks; and her parents.

She is survived by her daughter, Wilma Ellen Dicks of Maryland; six sons, Robert Dicks of Linden, Tenn., Joseph D. Dicks of Meridian, Eugene A Dicks of Shoreham, N.Y., Charles P. Dicks of Vicksburg, James W. Dicks of Bernardsville, N.J., and Guy B. Dicks of Oak Harbor, Va.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be James W. Dicks, John Paul Dicks, Emmanuell K. Dicks, David A. Dicks, Wilma Ellen Dicks, Joseph Scott Dicks, Jason C. Dicks and Guy B. Dicks.

Honorary pallbearer will be Robert Dicks.

WALLACE E. PRATHER

NEWELLTON Wallace E. Prather died Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at Franklin Medical Center. He was 78.

Born in Natchitoches, La., Mr. Prather had lived in Newellton for 50 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a school principal and educator.

He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Slater Prather of Newellton; two daughters, Trudy Arnold of Newellton, Susan Vestal of Houston, Texas; a sister, Trudy Barnette of Tulsa, Okla.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Newellton Union Church with the Rev. J. Fulton McGraw officiating. Burial will follow at Legion Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Edwin Britt, Parnell Barfield, Larry May, Stanley May, Larry Foster and Ricky Foster.

FRANCES M. RICHARDS

FAYETTE Frances M. Richards died Thursday, June 27, 2002, at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge. She was 79.

A native of Richardsville, Ky., Mrs. Richards had lived most of her life in Fayette. She was a purchasing agent for Jefferson County Hospital. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star No. 149, Fayette Garden Club, Union Church Home Demonstration Club, Humanas Association of Natchez and Fayette Baptist Church.

She is survived by three brothers, Mac Richards of Fayette and Gene Richards and John R. Richards, both of Vicksburg; and her sister, Joyce Ann Richards of Fayette.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Port Gibson. Burial will follow at Fayette Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Saturday until the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Joe Sanders, Herbert Miller, Frank Spillman, Calvin Young, Patrick Sanders and Eugene Sanders.

ULYSSES C. SHELLEY

Services for Ulysses C. “June” Shelley will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary’s Center with the Rev. Clifton Spicer officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 7 p.m. Saturday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home and from noon Sunday until the service at St. Mary’s Center.

Mr. Shelley died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. He was 19.

Mr. Shelley was senior at Warren Central High School where he was a member of the JROTC and the manager of the track team.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, William and Alberta Rowster; and his paternal grandparents, James and Ikie Lee Hardy.

He is survived by his mother, Gail Shelley Gleese of Vicksburg; his father, Ulysses Hardy of St. Louis, Mo.; his stepfather, Alfred Davis of Vicksburg; four brothers, Jeffery Shelley of Robinsonville, Terrence Shelley, Shannon Shelley and Stanley Gleese Jr., all of Vicksburg; four sisters, LaTonya Shelley, Alicia Gleese, Vonda Gleese and Kenyatta Foster, all of Vicksburg; and other relatives, including Stanley Gleese of Savannah, Ga.
