JAHALA FAYE JACKSON BLACK

Jahala Faye Jackson Black died Monday, July 1, 2002, at Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville. She was 50.

Born in Greenville, Mrs. Black graduated from Greenville High School and Mississippi College for Women. She was employed with McRae’s in Jackson as a buyer and with Stage Department Store in Natchitoches, La. She had lived in Vicksburg for the last five years. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Jackson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Black; and her father, Evans Jackson.

She is survived by her son, Donald Gwain Black of Vicksburg; her mother, Faye Sudduth Jackson of Greenville; and her brother, Jack Jackson of Greenville.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Greenville. Burial will follow at Greenville Cemetery under the direction of Boone-Wells Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from noon Wednesday until the service at the church.

INA CLARK

EPPS Ina Clark died Monday, July 1, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe. She was 84.

Mrs. Clark was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Trim; and a daughter, Wanda Ford.

She is survived by her husband, H.M. Clark Sr. of Epps; her daughter, Peggy Brock of Epps; three stepdaughters, Julie Linson of Epps, Nancy Herbert of Delhi and Irma Williams of West Monroe; two stepsons, H.M. “PeeWee” Clark Jr. and Charles Clark, both of Delhi; her sister, Lottie Bain of Pioneer, La.; grandchildren; and stepgrandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Epps Baptist Church with the Rev. Donnie Linson officiating. Burial will follow at Epps Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Danny Parker, Chad Parker, Buddy Fletcher, Jamie Garsee, Charles Clark and H.M. Clark Jr.

GRACIE JOSEPHINE HOOVER

Gracie Josephine Hoover died Sunday, June 30, 2002, at her daughter’s home in Vicksburg. She was 81.

Mrs. Hoover was a native of Natchez. A homemaker, she was a member of Grace Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie Fredrich and Sally Goshorn Johnson; her husband, Mayo Hoover Sr.; a son, Mayo Hoover Jr.; and six brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include two daughters, Neda Gretszinger of Vicksburg and Betty Louise Payne of Orlando, Fla.; two sons, Tim Hoover of Edwards and Harold Hoover of Vicksburg; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home with Sam Dunaway and Billy Brumfield officiating. Burial will follow at Yokena Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Brian Smith, Ryan Hoover, William Gretszinger, Wesley Gretszinger, Bob Payne and Don Jones.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Paul Pierce III, Dr. Abdul Bahro, Dr. Michael L. Davis, Dr. David Halinski, Dr. Anita Tribble and Dr. Edward Addo.

GEORGE W. SAXON

George W. Saxon died Sunday, June 30, 2002. He was 83.

Mr. Saxon lived in Shrewsbury, Pa., and Catonsville, Md., before moving to Baltimore, where he worked as a logistics engineer for Westinghouse Corp. for 36 years. He retired in 1985.

Mr. Saxon was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army and receiving the Purple Heart.

He was a member and lector at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in New Freedom, Pa. He was a member and past vice president of St. Johns’s Jewels, also in New Freedom. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and participated in Meals on Wheels.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Stranenchak Saxon; his wife, Marjorie B. Sanderson Saxon of Vicksburg; and a son, James Russell Saxon.

Survivors include a son, Craig Saxon of Shrewsbury; three brothers, Albert Saxon of Arbutus, Md., Larry Saxon of Pittsburgh, Pa., and James Saxon of San Bernardino, Calif.; four sisters, Mary Salamon of Bryan, Texas, Betty Dingleman of Casadaga, N.Y., Helen Cehtar of East McKeesport, Pa., and Marguerite Rock of Wall, Pa.; one granddaughter; and members of the Sanderson family of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

Visitation will be from noon Wednesday until the service at the church.

ROBERT TAYLOR SIMS SR.

Robert Taylor Sims Sr. died Monday, July 1, 2002, at his home. He was 83.

Mr. Sims was born and reared in Canton. He farmed in Madison and Yazoo counties before retiring and moving to Vicksburg 15 years ago. He was a member of St. Luke Church of God in Christ.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Susie Mae Sims; a grandson, Walter Ware; and five sisters.

He is survived by four sons, John Sims, Robert Sims Jr., and Carl Sims, all of Vicksburg, and Caleb Ware II of Canton; five daughters, Mable Lyons and Shirley Nickson Jackson, both of Vicksburg, Bobbie Grace of Canton, Fannie Brown of Oakland, Calif., and Betty Sims of Michigan City, Ind.; three brothers, Edward Sims and Albert Sims, both of Canton, and John Sims of Chicago; two sisters, Katherine Sims and Hattie Sims, both of Chicago; and 45 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and other relatives.
