JAMES CAMERON DONOVAN

James Cameron Donovan died Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. He was 81.

A longtime resident of Lake Providence, Mr. Donovan was a resident of Vicksburg. He graduated from Lake Providence High School in 1938. He was retired from Hollybrook Gin and Delinting Plant. He served as a Police Juryman in East Carroll Parish where he was elected president for several years. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

He was preceded in death by his father, James W. Donovan; and his mother, Ethel Donovan.

He is survived by his wife, Verna Donovan of Vicksburg; three sisters, Evelyn Porter of Beaumont, Texas, Mary Miller of Eunice, La., and Lottie Creeden of Rockville, Md.; and his brother, Vernon Fair of Mansfield, La.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Cox Funeral Home in Lake Providence with the Revs. Paul Stephens and Lamar Skinner officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Memorial Cemetery in Lake Providence.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Thursday until the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Mike Bradley, Jim Fairchild, Tim Winstead, Kevin Winstead, Jerry Lee Sullivan and Chissey Reed.

WALTER WILLIAM HEIGLE SR.

MAYERSVILLE Walter William Heigle Sr. died Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at his home in Mayersville. He was 90.

A native of Center Ridge, Ark., Mr. Heigle had lived in Mayersville for the last 39 years. He was a member of the Rolling Fork Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Heigle of Mayersville; two sons, Walter Wade Heigle of West Memphis, Ark., and Walter William Heigle Jr. of Mayersville; five daughters, Margie Thurston of Vicksburg, Billie McCoy of Dexter, Mo., Leotta Hamill of Searcy, Ark., Wanda Baker of Harrison, Ark., and Renee Alford of Birmingham; his brother, Ferrell Heigle of Texarkana, Ark.; four sisters, Hazel Boyles and Lois McKuin, both of Bernie, Mo., Marvell Brister of Wisner, La., Imoagane Stroud of Alexandria, La.; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and other relatives.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Rolling Fork Church of Christ with the Rev. Eugene Springer officiating. Burial will follow at County Line Cemetery in Glen Allan.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at Glenwood Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.

Pallbearers will be Trace Heigle, Todd Heigle, Paul Grantham, Jamie McCoy, James McCoy and Ralf Thurston.

Honorary pallbearers will be George Hawn Jr., Jerry McNeil and the men of the Rolling Fork Church of Christ.

ELOUISE MARIE RUSH

Elouise Marie Rush died Monday, July 1, 2002, at the Pearl River county Hospital in Poplarville. She was 85.

A native of Van Wert, Ohio, Mrs. Rush had lived in Mississippi for 50 years. She was an administrative assistant at W.E.S. for 15 years. She was a member of Phi Alpha Kappa Sorority for 30 years. she was a member of Hawkins United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin G. Rush Jr.

She is survived by her son, Nowell Rush of McLean, Va.; and her daughter, Melanie R. McGee of Poplarville.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Mitchell Hedgepeth officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial park.

Visitation will be from noon Friday until the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Kevin McGee, Nowell Murphy, Michael McGee, Bob Walters, Kyle McGee and Sam Price.

Honorary pallbearers will be E.S. Rush.

Memorials may be made to Hawkins United Methodist Church.

CATHERINE THOMAS SMITH

Services for Catherine Thomas Smith will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ashland M.B. Church with the Rev. James Dorsey officiating. Burial will follow at Ashland Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home officiating.

Mrs. Smith died Saturday, June 29, 2002, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. She was 95.

A homemaker, she was a member of Ashland M.B. Church in Port Gibson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Peyton Smith; her father, Alex Thomas Sr.; her mother, Mary Kelly Thomas; five brothers, Henry Thomas, Johnny Thomas, Willie Thomas, Alex Thomas Sr. and Steve Thomas; four sisters, Gracie Starks, Ouie Mae Thomas, Mattie Curry and Carrie James.

She is survived by three nieces, Georgia Morrow, Lee Anna Wells and Geraldine Harris, all of Vicksburg; and her nephew, William James of Vicksburg.

JOHN H. SHAMBURGER

John H. Shamburger died July 3, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. He was 76.

A native of Meridian, Mr. Shamburger had lived in Vicksburg for over 50 years. He is a graduate of the University of Mississippi and the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces with a bachelor’s degree in geological engineering. He was retired from the U.S. Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station as the Chief of the Engineering Geology Applications Group of the Geotechnical Laboratory.

He was a registered professional engineer in Mississippi and a past member of the Association of Engineering Geologist, American Society of Photogrammetry, Society of Military Engineers, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is listed in American Men and Women of Science and Who’s Who in Technology.

Mr. Shamburger was a retired colonel with the U.S. Army Reserve, and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Church of the Holy Trinity of Vicksburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John H. and Pearl F. Shamburger.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; four daughters, Marie S. Mitchell of Fair Play, South Carolina, Carol S. Horn of Vicksburg, Brenda S. Jackson of Starkville and Lisa S. Mayne of Greenwood; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Church of the Holy Trinity.

Visitation will be in the Parish Hall from 10 a.m. until the service.

Memorials may be made to the Holy Trinity Building Fund.
