NELLIE RAE BLOUNT

YAZOO CITY Nellie Rae Blount died Thursday, July 4, 2002, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. She was 72.

Mrs. Blount was born in Yazoo County. A homemaker, she was a member of Pocahontas Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Florene Ainsworth and Curtis Sumrall.

Survivors include a daughter, Louise Freeman of Vicksburg; four sisters, Bobbie Hart and Ann Cantrell, both of Jackson, Jean Powell of Brandon and Delores Coker of Murrieta, Calif.; and five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Glenwood Cemetery in Yazoo City with the Rev. Steve Jordan officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Stricklin-King Funeral Home.

JOSEPH M. CAVALIERI

Joseph M. Cavalieri died Thursday, July 4, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. He was 60.

A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Mr. Cavalieri had been a longtime resident of Vicksburg. He was a computer technician for Network Systems retiring in 1993. He was a veteran of the Navy serving as a pilot during Vietnam. He was a member of the W.E.M.F. Club and Moose Lodge. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion where he was a past commander and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was of the Catholic faith.

He is survived by his fiance, Sylvia Neal of Vicksburg; four daughters, Theresa Cavalieri of Pompano Beach, Fla., Maria Cavalieri of Vero Beach, Fla., Rose Ann Cavalieri of Las Vegas and Melissa Cavalieri of Dear Park, N.Y.; two brothers, Al Cavalieri of California and Rodney Cavalieri of New York; and one grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Glenn Mahon officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Herbert White, Louis Hasty, Grady Edwards, Plezy Hasty, John Erwin and Larry Barnes.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Paul W. Pierce III, Dr. Murray Whitaker, Dr. Michael Davis and the staff of River Region Medical Center, members of the W.E.M.F. Club, American Legion, VFW and the Moose Lodge.

FRANCES GOODMAN GREER

ANGUILLA Frances Goodman Greer died Wednesday, July 3, 2002, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Rolling Fork. She was 94.

Born in Cary, Mrs. Greer attended Mississippi College for Women in Columbus. For many years she lived in Anguilla where she worked at the Bank of Anguilla. After retiring, she painted and wrote poetry. Her poem “Your Picture” was published in 1990 in the Great Poems of the Western World, Volume II.

She was a member of Anguilla United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Greer was preceded in death by her husband, Harris Fields Greer; a sister, Ethel Goodman Wade; and a brother, Dr. H.B. Goodman.

She is survived by one son, Henry Michael Greer of Greenville; two daughters, Patricia Greer Kline of Anguilla and Laura Greer Thomas of Jupiter, Fla.; and four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Anguilla United Methodist Church with the Rev. James Milner officiating. Burial will follow at Golden Link Cemetery in Anguilla under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home of Rolling Fork.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. today until the service at the church.

Pallbearers will be Henry Goodman, Tommy Ewing, Grover Greer, Michael Scott McBryde, Fred Miller and Russell Stewart.

Honorary pallbearers will be Milton Stewart, Homer Greer, Dr. Danny Jackson, Merlin Richardson and Ronnie Wilson.

Memorials may be made to Anguilla United Methodist Church.

MARY ALLEN RANDLE

JACKSON Mary Allen Randle died Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. She was 86.

Mrs. Randle, formerly of Vicksburg, was a Jackson resident. She attended Jackson Beauty School and was a licensed hairdresser. She was a member of the Willing Workers Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. W.M. Allen; her stepdaughter, Ruth Ann Miller; and brothers and sisters.

She is survived by a sister, Bernice Wilder of St. Louis, Mo., her nephew, J.P. Allen of Jackson; and other relatives, including Pearl M. Allen of Jackson.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lakeover Memorial Funeral Home in Jackson. Burial will follow at Mount Moriah Church Cemetery in Edwards.

Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

ROBERT TAYLOR SIMS SR.

Services for Robert Taylor Sims Sr. will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pleasant Green M.B. Church, 3920 Highway 43 in Sharon. Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home.

Mr. Sims died Monday, July 1, 2002, at his home. He was 83.

He was born and reared in Canton. He farmed in Madison and Yazoo counties before retiring and moving to Vicksburg 15 years ago. He was a member of St. Luke Church of God in Christ.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Susie Mae Sims; a grandson, Walter Ware; and five sisters.

He is survived by four sons, John Sims, Robert Sims Jr., and Carl Sims, all of Vicksburg, and Caleb Ware II of Canton; five daughters, Mable Lyons and Shirley Nickson Jackson, both of Vicksburg, Bobbie Grace of Canton, Fannie Brown of Oakland, Calif., and Betty Sims of Michigan City, Ind.; three brothers, Edward Sims and Albert Sims, both of Canton, and John Sims of Evansville, Ind.; two sisters, Katherine Williams of Joliet, Ill., and Hattie Flemming of Evansville; and 45 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and other relatives.
