John E. Baker Sr. died Saturday, July 6, 2002, at his home in Vicksburg. He was 68.

Mr. Baker was born in Tallulah. He had lived in Vicksburg since 1955. He retired as a captain from the Vicksburg Police Department in 1982 after 25 years of service. He was owner and operator of Baker Investigative and Security Service Inc. in Vicksburg and was a veteran of the Army. He attended Bowmar Baptist Church.

Mr. Baker was a member of the Civitan Club of Vicksburg, Paxton Masonic Lodge and Mississippi Peace Officers Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nathaniel and Fannie Bell Baker; a son, Michael David Baker; two brothers, Leland Baker and Jim Johnson; and a sister, Allie Stout.

He is survived by his fiance, Debbie Strange of Vicksburg; a son John E. Baker Jr. of Tallulah; two sisters, Carrie Mae Jones of Delhi and Grace Kinney of Baton Rouge; and two grandchildren, Ryan Baker and Tandon Baker, both of Tallulah.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Bowmar Baptist Church with the Rev. Terry White, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tallulah.

Visitation will be from 2 until 5 p.m. today at Glenwood Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be John Lee, Danny Butler, Clarence Whitaker, Doug Leo, DeWitt Gray, Robert Dowe, Jack Dowe and John Scroggins.

Honorary pallbearers will be officers of the Vicksburg Police Department, W.B. Duggins Jr., Bob Hollingsworth, Jonathan Strange, Martin Pace, Joe Bell and Leroy Williams.


Ryan Michelle Brannon died Thursday, July 4, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 14.

Miss Brannon was born in Panama City, Fla., and moved to Vicksburg in 1991. She attended Warren Central Junior High School.

She is survived by her parents, Charles L. Brannon Jr. and Diana B. Nolan of Vicksburg; four brothers, Patrick Granger of Vicksburg, Chris Nolan of Monroe, La., Matthew Nolan of Vicksburg and Scott Nolan of Vicksburg; two sisters, Joni Granger of Vicksburg and Brittany Brannon of Vicksburg; maternal grandparents, Bobby and Annette Burgett of Robertsdale, Ala.; and paternal grandfather, Charles L. Nolan Sr. of Tallulah.

Glenwood Funeral has charge of the arrangements.


Mary Funches, a resident of Vicksburg, died Friday, July 5, 2002, at Midway Hospital in Los Angeles. She was 95.

Mrs. Funches was a member of Mount Zion No. 1 Church in Vicksburg. She was a cook.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Funches Sr.; her parents, Marendie Willis and Willie Willis; her son, George Funches Jr.; three daughters, Hydinia Ross, Catherine Hubbard and Verlean Funches; two sisters, Amanda Williams and Sedella Williams; and brothers.

Mrs. Funches is survived by two sons, Robert Funches and Leroy Willis, both of Los Angeles; four daughters, Clara Berry, Ordella Walls and Burtee Hunt, all of Los Angeles, and Patricia Wright of Vicksburg; a sister, Idella Owens of Berkeley, Calif.; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

HARLINGEN, Texas Lynn Hauserman died Tuesday, July 2, 2002 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas. She was 60.

Mrs. Hauserman was born in Pelahatchie. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in La Feria, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Hauserman; her father, Byrl Stegall; her mother, Etha Stegall; two brothers Elton Stegall and Ersa Stegall; and a sister, Ladell Townsend.

She is survived by her sons, Rod, Mark and Brian Hauserman; grandsons, Chase, Logan and Trevor Hauserman; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be at the home of Hunter and Amy Wilhelm, 1910 Elmwood in Harlingen, Texas, at 6 p.m., Saturday. A memorial service will be at 6:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

SEFFNER, Fla. Mishka Sha Cole Mims died Saturday, July 6, 2002, at Tampa General Hospital in Florida. She was 13.

Mishka was a member of Without Walls International Church in Seffner, Fla. She attended Horace Mann Middle School in Seffner.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Bertha and Clarence Sullivan; and her maternal grandparents, Rufus Mims Jr. and Lenora Mims.

Survivors include her parents, Delores Mims of Vicksburg and Louis Sullivan of Seffner; a brother, Quinton Mims of Vicksburg; two stepbrothers, Sidney Sullivan and Chadwick Sullivan, both of Seffner; a stepsister, Angel Taylor of Seffner; and aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends.

LAKE PROVIDENCE Martha Carolyn “Mar Carol” McClendon Scott died Saturday, July 6, 2002, at West Carroll Memorial Hospital in Oak Grove, La. She was 67.

Mrs. Scott was born in Shreveport and lived in Lake Providence.

She was preceded in death by her son, Raymond Scott; her father, Earl McClendon; and her mother, Ruby McClendon.

She is survived by her husband, James C. Scott Sr. of Lake Providence; two sons, Jamie of Oak Grove, and Ronald Scott of Monroe, La.; one daughter, Ruby Lynn Tatum of Sterlington, La.; four grandsons, Blake Pierce, Brock Pierce, Matthew Scott and David Hakola; four granddaughters, Brittany Tatum, Morgan Scott, Molly Scott and Katie Scott; one brother, John D. McClendon of Monroe; and one sister, Alma Ray Patrick of Lake Providence.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Don Boyett, Bill McLain and Stowe Harbin officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Memorial Cemetery at Lake Providence.

Pallbearers will be Tim Scott, Russ Tatum, John W. McClendon Sr., Ryan Powell, Will Patrick and John W. McClendon Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will be Blake Pierce and Brock Pierce.
