Meridian ousts Hurricanes, 9-4

[07/10/02]The Vicksburg Hurricanes took home their second straight runner-up finish in the Cal Ripken State Tournament on Monday, falling to Meridian, 9-4.

The 10-year-olds’ all-star team left 14 men on base against the host team, including leaving the bases loaded in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

The Hurricanes, who were beaten by Meridian on Sunday, beat Orange Grove, 14-8, to reach the finals. The ‘Canes scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back.

D. White, Ryno Martin-Nez, Stephen Evans, Jimmy Elliott, Chris Snow, Justin Rushing and Pierson Waring each had two hits. Martin-Nez had four RBIs.

The Hurricanes will still play in the USSSA regional in Slidell, La., starting July 18.
