ELIZABETH NADLER BUCKNER

TALLULAH Elizabeth Nadler Buckner died Saturday, July 13, 2002, at Madison Parish Hospital in Tallulah. She was 73.

Mrs. Buckner was a homemaker, teacher and bookkeeper. She was reared in Puerto Rico until the age of 13. She graduated from Baton Rouge High School and received a bachelor of liberal arts degree from Louisiana State University. She was a member of the The Church at Tallulah.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Buckner Sr.; her father, Harry A. Nadler; her mother, Georgie Robertson Nadler; her sister, Georgie Nadler Hall; and her brother, Harry A. Nadler.

She is survived by three sons, Louis Buckner Jr. of Tallulah, Nathan Ellis Buckner of Houston, Texas, and Harry Nadler Buckner of Plaquemine, La.; three daughters, Janie Buckner Fabre of Tallulah, Beth Buckner Shelton of Lewisville, Texas, and Georgie Buckner of Dallas; and 10 grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home in Tallulah with the Rev. Kent Fabre officiating. Burial will follow at Silver Cross Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Josiah Fabre, Zadok Fabre, Simeon Fabre, Ben Buckner, Dees Simpson Sr. and Dees Simpson Jr.

ADDIE LEWIS

Services for Addie Lewis will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with Tommy Whitaker officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Lewis died Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. She was 96.

She was a homemaker and a Jehovah’s Witness.

She was preceded in death by her husband Luther Lewis; her mother, Julie London; two brothers, Hosie Thomas and Andrew Thomas; and a sister, Classie Mae Gardner.

She is survived by her son, Hezekiah Lewis of Vicksburg; three sisters, Celestine Moore and Loretta Snow, both of Vicksburg, and Minnie Hope of Los Angeles; two grandchildren, Lemon Taylor of Washington, D.C., and Carolyn Taylor of St. Louis; and other relatives.

ROSIE DELORES MARSH

OAKLAND, Calif. Rosie Delores Marsh, a former resident of Vicksburg, died Sunday, July 14, 2002, at her home in Oakland, Calif. She was 55.

Mrs. Marsh was a member of Mount Pilgrim M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Marsh; her father, Isaac Randle; her mother, Mary Williams Randle; a brother, John A. Jackson; her stepbrother, Leroy Kimble; and her maternal grandparents, Ed Williams and Emma Williams.

She is survived by her son, Derrick Marsh of Vicksburg; her daughter, Pamela Marsh of Oakland; three brothers, Steve Randle and Lawrence Randle, both of Vicksburg, and James E. Jackson of Chicago; four sisters, Marie Phelps and Mary Wilson, both of Vicksburg, Tillie Davis of Shorewood, Ill., and Dorothy Randle of Champaign, Ill.; and other relatives, including Emma Williams and Gracie Walker, both of Vicksburg, and Idelia Williams and Bennie Williams, both of Chicago.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

DEAN WALKER McALPIN

Dean Walker McAlpin died Friday, July 12, 2002, at her home. She was 74.

Born in Grapevine, Ark., Mrs. McAlpin had lived in Vicksburg most of her life. She was employed for a number of years with First National Bank. She also worked for Waterways Experiment Station where she retired in 1989. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert “Mac” McAlpin.

She is survived by her son, Stan McAlpin of Vicksburg; her brother, Harold Barker of Vicksburg; two grandchildren; Philip Schrader of Jackson and Dan Schrader of Starkville; and other relatives, including Jean McAlpin of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with Dr. John G. McCall officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be O.W. Mendrop, Jim Stevens, Joe Crow, Glenn Waters, Ben Carnes and Wallace Randall.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mammie Barnes, Vivian Banks, Maggie Thomas, Samestine Adams and members of the Trinity Baptist Church Ladies 3 class.

JERRY DALE OWENS

OAK GROVE Jerry Dale Owens died Saturday, July 13, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe. He was 69.

Mr. Owens was born in Darnell, La.

He was preceded in death by his father, Merton Watson Owens; his mother, Ethel Eugenia Owens; and a brother, Clinton Eugene Owens.

He is survived by his wife, Mavis T. Owens of Oak Grove; three sons, Alan Dale Owens of Hattiesburg and Gary Dean Owens and Terry Gaston Owens, both of Oak Grove; three brothers, Billy Owens of Oak Grove, Bobby Owens of Houston, Texas, and Tom Owens of Charlotteville, Va.; five grandchildren; and other relatives, including Lori Owens of Hattiesburg and Charlotte Owens and Alicia Owens, both of Oak Grove.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Goodwill Church of God in Goodwill, La., with the Rev. David Radford officiating. Burial will follow at Red Wing Cemetery in Oak Grove under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Jason Owens, Landon Owens, Kyle Owens, Doug Lambert, Rodney Owens and Carl Hemphill.

Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Vining, Lee Louis Jones, the Rev. Merle Kennedy, Gaston Tyson, Mike Tyson and Billy Owens Jr.

COY E. RAY

Coy E. Ray died Sunday, July 14, 2002, at his home. He was 71.

A native of Eupora, Mr. Ray had lived in Vicksburg for 53 years. He was the owner and operator of Ray Electric Company for 47 years. He was a member of W.H. Stevens Masonic Lodge No. 3, Wahabi Shrine Temple of Jackson, Acacia Chapter No. 56 Order of Eastern Star and Midway Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Edwin Ray; and his sister, Evelyn R. Lamb.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Ray of Vicksburg; two sons, Charles E. Ray of Vicksburg and Carl E. Ray of Senatobia; his daughter, Gail Cothran of Vicksburg; a brother, Arvil Ray of Kilgore, Texas; four grandchildren, Ryan Cothran of Vicksburg, Corey Ray of Madison and Crystal Ray Yount and Rebecca Ray, both of Senatobia; and other relatives.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fisher Funeral Home with Donnie Cain, pastor of Midway Church of Christ, and the Rev. Mitchell Hedgepeth, pastor of Hawkins United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Clyde Donnell, O.W. Mendrop, Charles Gastrell, Lucius Dabney Jr., Dr. Robert Abraham, Dr. George Abraham II, Wayne Lindsey and Rodney Lindsey.
