JOHNNY BOSLEY

Johnny Bosley died Tuesday, July 16, 2002, at Trace Haven Nursing Home. He was 84.

Mr. Bosley was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Alice Bosley.

He is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, James and Delora Bosley of Vicksburg; and a sister, Lillie Lee Lawyer of Jackson.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

HERSHEL RAY CRAFT

DARNELL, La. Hershel Ray Craft died Saturday, July 13, 2002, in Lake Providence. He was 73.

Mr. Craft was born in Smith County and was a resident of Darnell, La.

He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Thomas Craft, and his mother, Sarah Jewel Jones.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Moore Craft of Darnell; a son, Walter D. Craft of Oak Grove, La.; a daughter, Judy Chestnut of Epps, La.; a brother, Charles Freeman Kennedy of Gaines, La.; a sister, Mamie McGlawn of Transylvania, La.; and five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bethel Primitive Baptist Church in Oak Grove with Joe Asbell officiating. Burial followed at Epps Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Michael Hoyt, David Craft, Jackie Jones, Michael Whatley, John Welch and James McDaniel.

OMEGA SHARP KEENE

TALLULAH Omega Sharp Keene died Tuesday, July 16, 2002, at Olive Branch Senior Care Center. She was 71.

Born in Neshoba County, Mrs. Keene was a homemaker and had lived in Tallulah for 25 years. She was of the Methodist faith.

She is survived by her stepdaughter, Brenda Meadows of Vicksburg; a niece, Carol Ann Trotter of Pollock, La.; and two nephews, David C. Sharp of Mount Juliet, Tenn., and Jack Sharp of White Cloud, Mich.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Silver Cross Cemetery in Tallulah with the Rev. David Sharp officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home.

WALTER G. LEWIS

Services for Walter G. “School Boy” Lewis will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mercy Seat M.B. Church, 5 Dos Casas Lane, with the Rev. Rudy Smith officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home.

Repast will be at St. Mary’s Center.

Mr. Lewis died Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at his home. He was 72.

He served in the Army and Army Reserve for 30 years and was a veteran of the Korean War. He retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District as a leaderman. He was a member of Mercy Seat M.B. Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Thompson Lewis; his parents, Annie Currie and Joe Lewis; a brother, Alfred Galloway; and a sister, Inez Collins.

Survivors include two sons, Ward Lewis of St. Paul, Minn., and Larry Stewart of Clinton; his daughter, Monique Jefferson of Vicksburg; his sister, Emma L. McKenzie of Vicksburg; a brother, Albert “Codey” Galloway of Vicksburg; and other relatives, including Janita R. Stewart of Clinton, J.W. McKenzie of Vicksburg, Charles Thompson of Edwards of Floyd Collins of Muskegon, Mich.

Honorary pallbearers will be Howard Billy Austin, Bobby Doyle, Norman Jones, Robert Lee, John McGee, Harry Powell, Leo Sims, James Walton, Sammie Williams and Tommie Lee Williams.

DR. CHARLES STUART PATTERSON

BATESVILLE, Ark. Dr. Charles Stuart Patterson died Monday, July 15, 2002, as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Batesville, Ark. He was 46.

Born in Vicksburg, Dr. Patterson was a biology instructor at University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Batesville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Bird Patterson and Hattie Sue Nelson Patterson.

He is survived by his wife, Melaine Patterson of Batesville; his son, Daniel Charles Patterson of Batesville; his stepson, Sean Pigg of Yazoo City; and his stepdaughter, K’dee Pigg of Yazoo City.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Stricklin-King Funeral Home in Yazoo City with David Bryant officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Willis-Hays Funeral Home of Batesville has charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 7 until 9 tonight at Willis-Hays Funeral Home in Batesville and from 5 until 8 p.m. Thursday at Stricklin-King Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Miles, Dannie Patti, John Overby, Steve Roark, Eddie Templeton and Dr. Balazs Zsenits.

Honorary pallbearers will be Brant Brantley, Larry Bird and Mike Bounds.

Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

PAULINE F. ROSS

UTICA Pauline F. Ross died Tuesday, July 16, 2002, at her home in Utica. She was 85.

Mrs. Ross was a Texas native and had lived in Utica since 1943. She was a member of Midway Church of Christ.

She is survived by a son, Jack Ross of Utica; a daughter, Patti Jordan of Utica; a sister, Ivalea Brand of Cuba, Ala.; and five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Utica with Donnie Cain officiating. Burial will follow at Utica Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Frank Smith, Richard Taylor, Jimmy Flowers, Frank Dawson, Don Williams, Harold Mobley and Billy Byrnes.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Templeton, Everett Knight, Carrol Foote, Hamp Hutchins, Dan Mobley, Art Atkinson and Eddie Waller.

SHERMAN SHELBY SR.

CHICAGO Sherman Shelby Sr. died Monday, July 8, 2002, at St. Francis Hospital in Blue Island, Ill. He was 79.

Mr. Shelby was born in Fayette and was a veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Shelby; his parents, Ulysses Shelby and Florence Shelby; a daughter; two sisters; and two brothers.

He is survived by one son, Sherman “Nick” Shelby of Chicago; three daughters, Barbara McGloster, Charlie Mae Shelby and Rose Mary Shelby, all of Vicksburg; his brother, Brent Shelby Sr. of Vicksburg; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

Services will be at 6 p.m. Sunday at Gatlin Funeral Home in Chicago. Burial will follow at Abraham National Cemetery in Joliet, Ill.

CHARLES CURBY WHITE SR.

Charles Curby White Sr. died Monday, July 15, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. He was 67.

A native of Parkin, Ark., Mr. White had lived in Vicksburg for 50 years. He was a veteran of the Army. He was a tin smith for 45 years and retired from Contract Services of Vicksburg. He was a member of New Vision Family Worship Center.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Violet T. Barnes White; and his parents, Charles Thomas and Mary Edna Smith Seale White.

He is survived by two daughters, Donna Marie Richardson and Vickie Lee Crutchfield, both of Vicksburg; his son, Charles Curby White Jr. of Lafayette, La.; two stepsons, Jimmy David Burton of Gatlinburg, Tenn., and Johnny Ray Burton of Vicksburg; his brother, James Edward White of Bay St. Louis; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Fisher Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
