Diamond Dolls just keep on winning at nationals

[08/02/02]Lauren Anderson pitched two complete mercy-rule games as the Vicksburg Diamond Dolls continue to roll through the double-elimination ASA National Tournament in Marietta, Ga.

Anderson pitched five innings, allowed two hits and struck out 11 in an 11-1 win over Pendleton, Ind., in the team’s opening game. The Warren Central standout pitcher then fanned seven in an 8-0 win over the Westland Hills Rockers of Troy, N.Y.

The Dolls were scheduled to play again today against the S.C.R.A. Flash, another top seed from Canton, Ga.

In the team’s first win Thursday, Sarah Kerut, Heather Shelby, Patti Collins, Brittany Fuller and Anna Miller each had two hits to pace the Dolls’ 12-hit attack. Anderson hit a three-RBI triple and Miller had two RBIs in the win. Collins also had two RBIs and Miller had one.

In the win over the New York team, all nine Dolls’ starters combined for 11 hits in the 5-inning game.

Collins had two hits, while Miller had two hits and an RBI and Megan Humphries had two RBIs. Kerut and Fuller each had an RBI.

Playing nearly flawless defense, the Dolls have committed just one error in the four games so far.

Courtney Prentiss shined on the basepaths as well by stealing home three times in the two games Thursday.
