CHARLES H. FOUNTAIN SR.
MAYWOOD, Ill. Charles H. Fountain Sr. died Monday, July 29, 2002, at his home in Maywood, Ill. He was 55.
A Vicksburg native, Mr. Fountain had lived in Maywood for a number of years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nehemiah Sr. and Rosalie Fountain; a sister, Shirley Fountain; and his stepmother, Mary Fountain.
Survivors include two daughters, Rosalind Fountain and Emily Fountain, both of Chicago; a son, Charles Fountain Jr. of Chicago; three brothers, Nehemiah Fountain Jr. of Broadview, Ill., Herman Fountain of Chicago and Elijah Fountain of Vicksburg; three sisters, Naomi Smith and June Caldwell, both of Vicksburg, and Joyce Fountain of Great Neck, N.Y.; four grandsons; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Services were at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hursen Funeral Home in Hillside, Ill.
MAY LOGUE DOIRON.
May Logue Doiron died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, at Madison Parish Hospital in Tallulah. She was 87.
A native of Jackson, Mrs. Doiron was the daughter of the late Ullen F. and Bessie Mae Clark Logue. She was a graduate of Greenville High School and attended Mississippi University for Women.
Mrs. Doiron had been a Vicksburg resident since 1935 and retired from Waterways Experiment Station after 21 years of service. She was a member of the Engineers Ladies Auxiliary and the Lions Club. She was past president of both the St. Aloysius Mothers Club and Jackson Deanery Council for Catholic Women. She was a member of the founding committee of St. Michael Catholic Church and was a member of the Catholic Women’s Auxiliary at the church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jules Warren Doiron Sr.
Survivors include three sons, Jules Warren Doiron Jr. and Phillip Logue Doiron, both of Vicksburg, and Gregory Oliver Doiron of Mandeville, La.; and 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be said at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael Catholic Church with the Rev. James O’Riordan, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at Riles Funeral Home with wake service at 7.
Pallbearers will be Mark Doiron, Phillip Doiron Jr., Craig Sosebee, Brad Warnock, Ryan Raines and Bernie McKinley.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Daniel Edney, Dr. L.P. Neumann and staff members of the Madison Parish Hospital and Olive Branch Senior Care Center in Tallulah.

PHOEBE BROWN FREEMAN
Services for Phoebe L. Freeman will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Williams Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.
Mrs. Freeman died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at Vicksburg Medical Center. She was 71.
She was employed at Anderson-Tully Co., and a member of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Ollie Freeman; four brothers and three sisters.
She is survived by a daughter, Betty Freeman Smith of Vicksburg; two sisters, Emma McLaurin of Jackson and Dora Shoemaker of Aurora, Ill.; five grandchildren, Tammie Purvis, Tony Freeman, Tina Bure and Rondell Freeman, all of Vicksburg, and Micheal Freeman of Woodville; seven great-grandchildren; and other relatives, including the Freeman, Washington and Griffin families.
CORA LEE HAYWOOD
FAYETTE Cora Lee Haywood died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, at Natchez Regional Medical Center. She was 79.
Mrs. Haywood is survived by her husband, Carl Haywood of Little Rock, Ark.; a brother, Joe Berry of Chicago; a sister, Eula Berry of Memphis; her caregiver, Hennie L.B. Taylor of Fayette; and other relatives including Rosie Berry of Lorman, Mary Berry of Port Gibson and Mary E. McPherson of Little Rock, Ark.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at East Mount Olive M.B. Church in Red Lick. Burial will follow at Little Zion Christian Church Cemetery in Red Lick under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson.
Visitation will be from 1 until 6 tonight at the funeral home and from noon Saturday until the service at the church.
ANNIE W. JACKSON
Annie W. Jackson died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, at Trace Haven Nursing Home. She was 91.
A homemaker, Mrs. Jackson was a member of New Rock of Ages Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Sr. and Clara Wells Williams; two brothers, the Rev. John Henry Williams and Frank Williams Jr.; and three sisters, Easter Sanders, Laura Mitchell and Lydia Littleton.
She is survived by her husband, Herbert Jackson of Vicksburg; a daughter, Claree Green of New London, Conn.; one brother, the Rev. Alfred Williams of Chicago; one sister, Emma Savage of Vicksburg; and eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

EDWARD McMULLEN
Edward McMullen died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. He was 82.
A native of Hickory Flat, Mr. McMullen was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. He was a maintenance/seeover for Grief Brothers Company for 38 years. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Deloris McMullen; three brothers, Oneal McMullen, Cliffton McMullen and Leon McMullen; and a sister, Edith Godwin.
He is survived by a son, Bill McMullen of Vicksburg; a daughter, Linda Sue Barnes of Vicksburg; his brother, Albert McMullen of Vicksburg; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Dwight Sibley, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Billy McMullen, Steve Cooper, Mike Evans, Russ Garceau, Mike McKissack and Bobby Godwin.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Hildon Sessums, Dr. Albert Chiempraba, Butch McMullen, Ricky McMullen, Ray Godwin, Cliff Burroughs and the ICU staff of River Region Medical Center.

ARTHUR STRONG JR.
Services for Arthur “Man Man” Strong Jr. will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Zion Travelers M.B. Church with the Rev. Alfred Lassiter Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Zion Christian Church Cemetery in Claiborne County.
Mr. Strong died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at University Medical Center in Jackson. He was 25.
Mr. Strong was a 1995 graduate of Vicksburg High School. He was employed as a ripsaw operator at Batesville Casket Company. He was a member of Zion Travelers M.B. Church.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Robert Brown Sr.; and his paternal grandfather, Walter Strong Sr.
He is survived by his fiancee, Shelia Kelly of Vicksburg; his daughter, Kiara Royale Strong of Vicksburg; his father, Arthur Strong Sr. of Vicksburg; his mother, Bettie M. Brown Strong of Vicksburg; his brother, Jermaine T. Strong of Vicksburg; his sister, Joyce M. Strong of Vicksburg; and aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
