MICHAEL ROBERT PATRICK

Michael Robert Patrick died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002, as the result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. He was 20.

Mr. Patrick lived for a number of years in Florida and had been a Vicksburg resident for the past 10 years. He graduated from Camp Shelby’s Challenge Academy and was in the Army Reserve.

He had attended Hinds Community College, where he pursued electrical technician certification. He attended Bowmar Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his paternal great-grandfather, Kenneth Patrick.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Linda D. and Jehu Walker of Vicksburg; his father, Mark R. Patrick of Burlington, Iowa; a daughter, Kaylon Marie Means of Vicksburg; his fiance, Stacey Means of Vicksburg; one brother, Adam Patrick of Vicksburg; two sisters, Danielle Walker of Vicksburg and Rene’ Canning of Jacksonville, Fla.; his paternal grandparents, William and Phyllis Avelene of Brokenbow, Okla.; his maternal grandparents, Charles and Sue Patrick of Iowa; his great-grandmother, Margarett Patrick of Bullow, Iowa; and his paternal stepgrandparents, Leon and Ruby Walker McCluskey of Tifton, Ga.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry White, pastor of Bowmar Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Lawrence Cemetery in Tifton.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

KATIE FIELDS CHAMBLISS

Katie Fields Chambliss died Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 91.

Born in East Carroll Parish, Mrs. Chambliss had lived in Vicksburg since 1940. She was a member of the Jackson Street Baptist Church and a member of Vicksburg Chapter No. 1, Order of Eastern Star.

She preceded in death by her husband, David Chambliss; her daughter, Delores Nichols; and great-granddaughter, Jerrine Chambliss.

She is survived by her daughter, Doressia Chambliss of Jackson; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

EDITH DESOTO FIELDS

Edith Desoto Fields died Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 78.

Born in Mansfield, La., Mrs. Fields had lived in Vicksburg since 1947. She was a retired cosmetologist and a member of Bowmar Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Foley of Pearl; her brother, J.A. Desoto of Hobbs, N.M.; her granddaughter, Vanessa Thacker of Brandon; her great-granddaughter, Victoria Thacker of Brandon; and other relatives, including Keith Thacker of Brandon.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Providence Cemetery in Ringold, La. Burial will follow under the direction of Rocket Funeral Home in Ringold.

Visitation will be from 2 until 4 p.m. Sunday at the Glenwood Funeral Home and from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Monday at Rocket Funeral Home.

JOHN LAWERENCE KIRBY SR.

TRANSYLVANIA, La. John Lawerence “Red” Kirby Sr. died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002. He was 79.

Mr. Kirby was born in Baskin, La.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Addie Mae Pitman Kirby; two sons, John L. Kirby Jr. and Don Kirby; a brother, Henry Steven Kirby; and two sisters, Joan Burns and Louise Hathcock.

He is survived by his wife, Amelia F. Kirby of Transylvania, La.; eight sons, David Kirby and Richard Kirby, both of Bastrop, La., Stacey Kirby and Paul Kirby, both of Transylvania, Pat Kirby and James Kirby, both of Forest, La., Michael Kirby of Kilbourne, La., and Henry Kirby of Macon, Ga.; one daughter, Henrietta “Sam” Edmiston of Delhi, La.; two brothers, Willard Kirby of Tallulah and Sam Kirby of Monroe; one sister, Effie Russell of Baton Rouge; 23 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 today at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Lake Providence with the Rev. Joseph Zacharius officiating. Burial will follow at Lake Providence Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Larry Kirby, Jason Kirby, Josh Kirby, Jeremy Kirby, John Edmiston Jr. and William Kirby.

Honorary pallbearer will be Thad Travis.
