VESTA VAN FRENCH

LAKE PROVIDENCE Vesta Van “Honey” French died Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, at West Carroll Memorial Hospital in Oak Grove. She was 72.

Mrs. French was born in Sicily Island, La., and was a resident of Lake Providence.

She was a member of the Lakeside Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Ervin French; her father, William Hugh Boyette; and her mother, Eunice Maranda Boyette.

She is survived by two sons, Kenneth French of New Orleans and Chris French of Kilbourne, La.; two daughters, Vanice French of Phoenix, Ariz., and Dianne French of Jackson; five brothers, Mark Boyette of Arcadia, La., Buddy Boyette of Rockford, Ill., Luke Boyette of Sikeston, Mo., Larry Boyette of Beloit, Wis., and Byron Boyette of Natchez; a sister, Laverne Hires of Lake Providence; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Lakeside Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Memorial Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be John Moran, Jimmie French, Jackie Ray Hires, Doug Hires, Byron Boyette and Mike Huffty.

ELLA TRIBBLE COOK

Services for Ella Tribble Cook will be at noon Tuesday at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Frank Gardner officiating. Burial will follow at New Hope Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be at Robbins Funeral Home Chapel all day Monday and at the church from 11 a.m. Tuesday until the hour of service.

Mrs. Cook died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 96.

She was a lifelong resident of the Bovina community and a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary L. Cook Brown of Bovina; one brother, Albert Tribble of Oakland, Calif.; six grandchildren and other relatives.

H. LEROY FULGHUM

JACKSON H. Leroy Fulghum died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002, at the Manhattan Health Care Center. He was 83.

Mr. Fulghum was born in Houston, Texas, and moved to Jackson in 1959.

He served in the Air Force and was a veteran of World War II.

Mr. Fulghum was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and also a member of the American Petroleum Geologists. He was a 32nd-degree Mason and a Shriner with the Arabian Temple in Houston, Texas.

He is survived by his wife, Grace M. Fulghum of Jackson; one son, Mac Fulghum of Vicksburg; one granddaughter, Jennifer Lewis of Raymond; three grandsons, Michael Fulghum of Brandon and Charles Fulghum and Brian Fulghum, both of Texas; one great-grandson Ridge Lewis of Raymond; one brother, John T. Fulghum of Houston.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Wright and Ferguson Parkway Chapel. Burial will follow at the Parkway Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday and 1 p.m. Monday.

Memorials may be made to the Shrine Crippled Children Hospital or to Christ United Methodist Church.

BESSIE MARIE JOHNSTON

Bessie Marie Johnston died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002, at Heritage House. She was 80.

Mrs. Johnston was born in Madison Parish and moved to Vicksburg in 1964.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Salvation Army Church.

Mrs. Johnston was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Johnston, Sr.

She is survived by her three sons, Willie B. Johnston, Jerry John Johnston and William Joseph Johnston, Jr. all of Vicksburg; one daughter, Ruby Lee Given of Vicksburg; seven grandchildren and seven great-grand children.

Services will be at 11 a.m Monday at Glenwwod Funeral Home with the Capt. John Showers officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Eudora, Ark.

Visitation will be at Glenwood Funeral Home from 2 until 5 p.m. today.

Pallbearers will be Henry Ozburn, Rickie Lowery, Stevie Giles, Robert Stauts, Bobby Bryen and Charles Houston.

JAMES A. TUCKER JR.

BRANDON James A. Tucker Jr. died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002, at his home in Brandon. He was 67.

Mr. Tucker was born in Ruleville and spent most of his life in Utica.

He was a veteran of the Army and a member of the South Madison Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Aydell Tyson Tucker of Brandon; three sons, James A. Tucker III and Edward Noel “Beaux” Tucker, both of Jackson, and Justin Edward Tucker of Utica; two daughters, Celeste Tucker Moody of Jackson and Cindi Tucker Newton of Wilmer, Ark.; and his mother, Dixie Livingston Tucker of Jackson.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at South Madison Church of Christ with ministers John Pigg and Paul Walden officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. at the Utica Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Paul Pounds, Roy Ross, George McLelland, Gordon Redd, Johnny Moody, Ed Freund, Austin Turner and Dan Leach.

Honorary pallbearers will be Don Collins, Kenny Redd, Paul Hancheck, Charlie Epps and Billy Richards.
