UTICA Ashley Anne Battles died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002, at her grandparents’ home in Learned. She was 14.

Ashley was born in Vicksburg and had lived in Utica most of her life.

She is survived by her parents, David and Benita Battles of Utica; one brother, Jessie Hudspeth of Utica; her maternal grandparents, Ernest and Florence Bailey of Learned; and her paternal grandfather, Bobby Stevens of Utica.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Faith Baptist Church in Utica with the Rev. Marshall Killcrease officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7 until 9 tonight at Glenwood Funeral Home in Utica and from 9 a.m. Friday until the service at the church.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Parrett, Michael Johnson, David Melton, Eric Howell, Wesley Carraway and Bret Cabb.

Memorials may be made to Faith Baptist Church for Ashley Battles, c/o the Rev. Marshall Killcrease, 2939 Belvedere Drive, Jackson, MS 39212.

KATIE FIELDS CHAMBLISS

Services for Katie Fields Chambliss will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Jackson Street Baptist Church with the Rev. John W. Carroll Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. Saturday until the service at the church.

Mrs. Chambliss died Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 91.

Born in East Carroll Parish, Mrs. Chambliss had lived in Vicksburg since 1940. She was a member of the Jackson Street Baptist Church and a member of Vicksburg Chapter No. 1 Order of Eastern Star.

She preceded in death by her husband, David Chambliss; her daughter, Delores Nichols; her great-granddaughter, Jerrine Chambliss; her parents, Joseph and Iscoy Walker Fields; six sisters; and seven brothers.

She is survived by her daughter, Doressia Chambliss of Jackson; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives, including Genora Hoffman and members of the Burks, Daniels, Martin, Gaskin, Chambliss and Miller families of Vicksburg; Rosemary Richardson of Lake Providence and Lula White of Fayette.

ELIJAH ELLIS

PORT GIBSON Services for Elijah Ellis will be at noon Saturday at Tillman Chapel Christian Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. Walter Chambers officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday at Robbins Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. Saturday until the service at the church.

Mr. Ellis died Monday, Aug. 19, 2002, at Claiborne County Hospital. He was 100.

Mr. Ellis was a lifelong resident of Port Gibson. He was retired from the Old Box Factory in Port Gibson and was a member of Tillman Chapel Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by his brothers and eight sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Pearl Ellis of Port Gibson; two daughters, Jessie Thomas and Bobbie Rankin, both of Port Gibson; one sister, Carrie Johnson of Cleveland; five grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

CARNELLA M. GREEN

PORT GIBSON Carnella M. Green died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002, at University Medical Center in Jackson. She was 72.

Mrs. Green was a member and mother of Antioch Christina Church. She was a member of Christian Aid and a member and former administrator of the Board of Trustees for Claiborne County Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Green; her parents, Booker and Lucy Martin; a son, Arthur Bernard Green; three sisters, Melva Jean Woods, Mildred McBride and Jessie Beatrice Jackson; and a grandson, Timothy Green.

Survivors include four sons, Julius E. Green and Nelson Green, both of Port Gibson, Cornelius Green of Jackson and Edgar Green Jr. of Panama City, Fla.; seven daughters, Janice McGee, Inez Green and Linda Green, all of Jackson, and Gwendolyn Green, Addie Green, Everjean Small and Catherine Williams, all of Port Gibson; two brothers, Booker T. Martin of Gary, Ind., and James Jackson of Port Gibson; three sisters, Everdean Campbell of Port Gibson, Addie Pendleton of Indianapolis, Ind., and Joyce Tinner of Gary, Ind.; 17 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Antioch Christian Church with the Rev. Daniel Cook officiating, assisted by Willie Wilson. Burial will follow at McCay Cemetery in Russum.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 today at Thompson Funeral Home Inc. of Port Gibson and from 10 a.m. Friday until the service at the church.
