FRANCES HAZEL

NEWELLTON Frances Hazel died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002, at her home in Newellton. She was 77.

Mrs. Hazel was born in Opelika, Ala., and had lived in Tensas Parish for 42 years. A homemaker, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Newellton.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Polly Fuller, and two sons, Jerry Hazel and Roy Hazel.

She is survived by a daughter, Rita H. Maynard of Newellton; a brother, Palmer Murphy of Opelika; two grandchildren, D.J. Maynard of Clayton, La., and Angel Maynard Smith of Newellton; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Newellton with the Revs. Fulton McGraw and Todd Sumrall officiating. Burial will follow at Legion Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home in Tallulah.

Pallbearers will be James Kelly, Derek Fuller, Richard Hazel, Andy Maynard, Darrell Maynard, Kenny King, Randy Woods and Jason Dessells.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mickey Richards, Rusty Richards, Buck Wilkinson and Glen Fuller.

ROSIE LEE JONES

Services for Rosie Lee Jones will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Greater Mount Lebanon M.B. Church with the Rev. Larry Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 7 p.m. Friday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. Saturday until the service at the church.

Mrs. Jones died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 82.

Mrs. Jones, a housekeeper, retired from Mercy Hospital in 1988. She was a member of Greater Mount Lebanon M.B. Church and former member of the Adult Choir.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie Wells and Mary Farrish Wells; one son, Nathaniel “Bootie” Lee; one brother, John Countryman; and three sisters, Emma Lee Wells, Margaret Jones and Bernice Wells.

She is survived by her husband, Notton Jones Sr. of Vicksburg; one son, Notton Jones Jr. of Vicksburg; two daughters, Dorothy Johnson and Mary Brown, both of Vicksburg; and nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

CLARA A. POPHAM

Clara A. Popham died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 86.

A native of San Antonio, Texas, Mrs. Popham had lived in Warren County since 1965. She was the daughter of the late Victor and Emma Mae Manahan Coudreit. She was a member of Eagle Lake United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Everett C. Popham, and a grandson, Robert F. Penley Jr.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Flemmie and Robert Penley of Eagle Lake; one grandson, Rusty Penley of Vicksburg; a great-grandson, Jake Penley; and other relatives.
