LEONARD STEVENS

Leonard “Red” Stevens died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Jackson. He was 74.

Stevens was born in Vicksburg and lived in Jackson. He owned and operated Leonard’s Clothing Store in Jackson for more than 50 years, was a veteran of the Air Force and was a life member of the American Legion in Vicksburg.

Survivors include three sons, Jack Stevens and Michael Stevens, both of Jackson, and Kyle Stevens of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one daughter, Beverly Stevens of Hattiesburg; one brother, Gordon Stevens of Vicksburg; two sisters, Val Davis and Dora Templeton, both of Vicksburg; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Gordon Haydel, Alex Shiers, Sam Smith, Leonard Hile, James Moore, Joe Stevens and Chuck Anderson.

Visitation will be from 2 until 5 p.m. today at Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Brian Ivey officiating. Burial will be at Green Acres Memorial Park in Vicksburg.

THOMAS CLAUDIE HARDY

RIDGELAND, Miss. Thomas Claudie Hardy died Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, at St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson. He was 81.

Hardy was a native of Neshoba County and lived in Vicksburg for 50 years before moving to Madison. He served in the Merchant Marines and was a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church. He retired as a carpenter from Carpenters Local 1964.

Survivors include wife, Mary Jones Hardy of Madison; four sons, Mark W. Hardy of Madison, Jerry C. Hardy of Vicksburg, Dale Hardy of Longview, Texas, and Carol F. Hardy of Houston; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Mathews, Franklin Hicks, Jack Tillotson, Gordon Evans, Wesley Wilson and John Richards.

Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Imanuel Baptist Church and members of Carpenters Local 1964.

Visitation will be from 2 until 5 p.m. today at Nowell-Flippin Funeral Home chapel in Ridgeland. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Nowell-Flippin Funeral Home chapel. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. in Bethsaida Cemetery in Philadelphia, Miss.

EDWIN T. BONNER

UTICA Edwin T. “Fuzz” Bonner died Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Jackson. He was 54.

Bonner was a native of Port Gibson. He was a welder and served in the Army during the Vietnam War, where he received medals including the Purple Heart. He also was an award-winning billiards player. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Claiborne County.

Survivors include his wife, Jackie; two daughters, Leigh Ladner of Baton Rouge and Jessie Key of Raleigh; one son, Eric T. Haliburton of Laurenceburg, Ind.; his mother, Lennie Bonner of New Albany; one sister, Jimmie Lynn Twiner of Vicksburg; and six grandchildren.

Glenwood Funeral Home in Utica is in charge of arrangements.

ANNIE BELL NEAL

Annie Bell Neal died Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 85.

Neal was a lifelong citizen of Vicksburg. She was a homemaker and member of Porters Chapel Baptist Church, where she had been president of the choir.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Columbus Neal; one daughter; three sisters; and four brothers.

Survivors include four sons, Willie Neal, Columbus Neal Jr., Charles Edward Neal and Alexander Neal, all of Vicksburg; three daughters, Barbara Calvin and Mary Wahiid, both of Vicksburg, and Thelma Marie Greer of Chicago; one sister, Elsie Watson of Niagara Falls, N.Y.; two brothers, Cornelius Jones of Vicksburg and Charlie Jones of Champaign, Ill.; 28 grandchildren; and 41 great-grandchildren.

GEORGE H. WILLIAMS

George H. Williams died Friday, Aug. 24, 2002, at his home in Vicksburg. He was 89.

Williams was born in Belzoni and moved to Vicksburg in 1921. He worked for Sears, Roebuck and Co. for 25 years and retired from Waterways Experiment Station after 30 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church and taught the Boaz Sunday school class.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Odene Williams; his parents, David Henderson Williams and Susan Jane Williams; one sister, Rebecca Biedenharn; and one brother, D.T. Williams.

Survivors include two daughters, Margaret Ann Cutting of Jackson and Betty Clay of Durant, Okla.; two sons, George H Williams Jr. of Connecticut and Charles Williams of Starkville; four sisters, Hilda White, Frances Williams and Betty Sue Wilkerson, all of Vicksburg, and Nancy Mumper of Jackson; two brothers, James Melvin Williams of Natchez and Herman Williams of New York; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Trey Curtis, Patrick Morrison, Bill Morrison, Cliff Axtel, Clyde McGehee, Carl Terry Hudson and Michael Piazza.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Boaz Sunday school class.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church Chapel with Revs. Eric Thomas and Harry Piazza Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday at Glenwood funeral Home.
