Bayou State Logging Inc. owner Kenneth Gardner, left, and Anderson-Tully employee Chris Barnett survey the damage at the scene of a logging truck wreck this morning at Levee and Depot streets. The truck driver, Dave Wilson, 31, of Tallulah, was treated and released from River Region Medical Center, a hospital spokesman said. Wilson’s cousin, Calvin Robinson, said he saw Wilson jump from the log truck cabin around 6:30 a.m., before the truck crashed into an empty boxcar parked on tracks along Levee Street. “I think his brakes went out,” Robinson said. “If he hadn’t jumped out of it, he’d probably be dead.” Gardner said after looking over the truck that it was hard to say what happened. “His truck was in neutral, may have been stuck and he just panicked when he came down the hill,” Gardner said. Vicksburg Fire Department medical records showed that the brakes in the truck went out. Vicksburg Police Lt. David Beard said parts of Levee and Depot streets were expected be blocked for several hours for cleanup. (The Vicksburg Post/MELANIE DUNCAN-THORTIS)
