DANIAL JASON EVANS

OAK GROVE Danial Jason Evans died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, in Oak Grove. He was 24.

Mr. Evans is survived by a son, Anthony Lane Evans of Kilbourne, La.; his parents, Danny Howard and Katherine Margaret Beebe Evans; his brother, Shaun Thomas Evans of Fort Campbell, Ky.; his grandparents, Frank and Nelwyn Beebe of Oak Grove; and great-grandparent Cleophas Beebe of Oak Grove.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Cox Chapel in Oak Grove with the Rev. Mark Elliott officiating. Burial will be at Red Wing Cemetery in Oak Grove.

Pallbearers will be Adam Lytle, Andy Womack, Chris Womack, Ryan Hale, Mark Gathings and Marshall Parker.

DERRICK DEWAYNE MAXEY

Derrick Dewayne Maxey died Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, at his home. He was 20.

Mr. Maxey attended San Diego, Calif., and Vicksburg Public Schools.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Queen Esther Clark and John Gee and his great-grandparents, Eddie and Josephine Gilland.

He is survived by his parents, Robert Clark and Zetia Maxey, both of Vicksburg; five brothers, Robert James Jackson and Kenneth Jackson, both of Austin, Texas, and Darrell Williams, Lorenzo Williams and Cedric Garrett, all of Vicksburg; three sisters, Leatha Ann Clark of Vicksburg, Serida Jones of Memphis and Queen E. Clark of Austin; his maternal grandmother, Bobbie Maxey of Vicksburg; and other relatives including uncles, nieces and nephews.

Williams Funeral Service has charge of the arrangements.

JAMES B. RUFFIN

OZAN, Ark. James B. “Ruff” Ruffin died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, at Christus St. Michael Health System in Texarkana, Texas. He was 71.

Mr. Ruffin, a former resident of the Crowville, La., community, was an avid sportsman. He held a commercial pilot’s license and had logged more than 20,000 hours. In addition, he was a certified flight instructor and a certified aircraft mechanic.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Eason and Lois Olive Young Ruffin; and his son, James David Ruffin.

Survivors include Edna Winkler of Ozan, Ark.; a son, Danny Ruffin of Crowville; five daughters, Carolyn Ruffin Bostick of Delhi, Judy McInnis of McLeod, Texas, Nancy Pepper of Sterlington, La., and Barbara Pylant and Lisa Martinez, both of Dunn, La.; three brothers, Harold Ray Ruffin of Milam, Texas, Bobby Joe Ruffin of Millington, Tenn., and Kenneth Ruffin of Benton, Ark.; a sister, Ruth McCay of Crossett, Ark.; 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday at Cox Funeral Chapel in Delhi with the Rev. Marion Collier officiating. Burial will be at Crowville Masonic Cemetery in Crowville.

Visitation will be from 6 until 10 tonight at Cox Funeral Home-Delhi.

Pallbearers will be Melvin Reagan, Lloyd Moore, Dewayne Chappell, Billy Servier, James Spence and Randy Thornhill.

Honorary pallbearers will be R.V. Sanches and J.W. Holloway.

BERNICE D. PORTER

Bernice D. Porter died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 92.

Mrs. Porter was the daughter of the late Zachariah M. and Mary Lilla Shirley Davidson. She was a Vicksburg native. She attended Mississippi State College for Women.

She had worked a caseworker until her retirement from the State of Mississippi Department of Welfare. She also was an Avon representative.

Mrs. Porter was active in community organizations and a member of Crawford Street United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, W.A. Porter of Vicksburg; her daughter, Pat P. Irby of Butler, Ala.; two sons, William M. Porter of Starkville and Dr. John Porter of Montgomery, Ala., eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and other relatives including son-in-law, William “Bill” Irby of Butler, Ala., and daughters-in-law, Velma Dunning Porter of Starkville and Linda Perkins Porter of Montgomery, Ala.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Riles Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Geoffrey Joyner, pastor of Crawford Street United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be at Riles Funeral Home from 10 a.m. Monday until the hour of the service.

Memorials may be made to Crawford Street United Methodist Church, 1408 Cherry St.

Pallbearers will be Jack Gillis, John Shorter, Will Irby, Andy Cheadle, Dr. Walter Johnston and Robert Greer.

VERONICA NICOLE WAGNER

Services for Veronica Nicole Wagner were Saturday at Redbone United Methodist Cemetery with the Rev. Kenny Hart officiating.

Miss Wagner died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, in Metairie, La. She was 24.

She is survived by her parents, Larry A. and Myrna F. Wagner of Vicksburg; two sisters, Patricia Branam Wavrin of Yazoo City and Cindy Michelle Albin of Madison; four brothers, Craig Wagner and Dale Wagner, both of Vicksburg, Matthew Wagner of Stafford, Va., and Russell Wagner of Cleveland, Miss.
