EVELYN NATIONS
LORMAN Evelyn Nations died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, at Claiborne County Hospital in Port Gibson. She was 71.
Mrs. Nations, a native of Norwood, La., had lived in Lorman since 1950. She was a retired clerk and was employed with Southwest Mississippi Electric Power Association in Lorman for 27 years. She was a member of Women of the Moose and First Presbyterian Church of Port Gibson.
Survivors include her husband E.G. Nations Jr. of Lorman; her mother, Eunice Faye Arnold of Centreville; two sons, James “Buddy” Nations Sr. of Lorman and Ronnie Nations of Port Gibson; one daughter, Carolyn Nations of Lorman; two brothers, Bobby Earl Taylor of Baton Rouge and Billy Ray Taylor of Walker, La.; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church of Port Gibson. Burial will follow at Cane Ridge Cemetery in Lorman under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home of Port Gibson. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Ross, Johnny Ross, Wilbur Nations Jr., Michael Taylor, Rusty Taylor, George Shaw and Bryan Ross.
Honorary pallbearers will be men of the Moose Lodge in Natchez.
WILLIAM B. SMITH SR.
Services for William B. “Pete” Smith Sr. were at 11 a.m. today at Bovina United Methodist Church with the Revs. Lynette Little and Sylvia Baylot officiating. Burial was at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.
Mr. Smith died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, at his home. He was 83.
Born in D’Lo, he had lived in Vicksburg since 1933. He was retired from Vicksburg Chemical Company, where he worked in the maintenance department. He was a veteran of the Army, serving in World War II. He was a member of Bovina United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Bounds Smith, and a son, David G. Smith.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Billy Jr. and Rachel Smith of Redwood; and a daughter and son-in-law, Penny and Terry Melton of Brandon.
Pallbearers were Michael Windham, Fred Windham, Phillip Windham, Richard Bounds, Steven Bounds and Bob Farr.
Honorary pallbearers were the Deacons of Bovina United Methodist Church, Carrie Knight and Zoe Derby.
MARY ALLENE WHITTINGTON
Mary Allene Whittington died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. She was 83.
A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Miss Whittington was the daughter of the late Rosco C. and Florence L. Thompson Whittington. She was a clerical worker at First National Bank for a number of years.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she assisted in the nursery department.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandmother, Letha Thompson, and a sister, Dorothy Jeanne Whittington.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cedar Hill Cemetery with Dr. John G. McCall officiating.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the service at Fisher Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be David Baldwin, Fred Baldwin, Harry Woods, Mark Chaney, Arthur Lagg, David Haworth, Randy Oswalt and Turner Brown.
