MARY PAINE BALAND

AMARILLO, Texas Services for Mary Paine Baland were at 1 p.m. Friday at Llano Cemetery in Amarillo, Texas, with the Rev. David Sholly officiating. Burial followed under the direction of Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Amarillo.

Mrs. Baland died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002. She was 96.

She was born in Vicksburg and had lived in Amarillo since 1948. She was a resident of Craig Methodist Retirement Community and a member of First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Merrill Nelson “Bob” Baland.

Survivors include two daughters, Bobbie Neidig of Fort Myers, Fla., and Marilyn Gibson of Stewartstown, Pa.; a brother, Joe Paine of Natchez; three sisters, Janie Metzen of Vicksburg, Katherine Nichols of Olive Branch and Grace Wunsch of Baton Rouge; and four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

SARAH KAHO DAY

FAYETTE Sarah Kaho Day died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, at Natchez Regional Medical Center. She was 84.

Born in Jefferson County, Mrs. Day was a member and mother at Rose Hill No. 1 Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Emma Kaho; a daughter, L.V. Day; and two brothers, Herman Kaho and Benjamin Kaho.

Survivors include her husband, James Day of Fayette; three sons, Charles Day, Robert Day and Donald Day, all of Fayette; a stepson, James Day Jr. of Omaha, Neb.; six daughters, Beatrice Holmes of Cannonsburg and Delores Jones, Ora Doss, Gloria Day, Mary Hamberlin and Cassandra Guice, all of Fayette; one stepdaughter, Lillie Arnold of Omaha; two sisters, Lettie Kaho Irving and Lottie Kaho, both of Cannonsburg; two brothers, Henry Kaho and Willie Kaho, both of Cannonsburg; and 29 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Rose Hill No. 1 Baptist Church in Fayette with the Rev. Ernest Ford Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Jefferson Chapel A.M.E. Cemetery in Church Hill.

Visitation will be from 3 until 6 today at Rollins Chapel in Fayette.

Pallbearers will be Cyrus Day, Brent Jones, Darius Hamberlin, Ronald Guice, Marcus Fleming and Lafendrick Day.

Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Day, Donald Day, Robert Day, Dudley Guice Sr., Lavern Hamberlin, Grover Trunell and David Buckles.

MELANIE R. LEWIS-PARKER

Services for Melanie R. Lewis-Parker will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. James O. Bowman officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Lewis-Parker died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 35.

Mrs. Lewis-Parker was a private-duty caregiver. She was a member of Mount Zion M.B. Church at Ballground.

She was preceded in death by a son, Melvin Carlos Lewis; two sisters, Gloria Bunch and Sharon Elizabeth Lewis; one brother, Paul Lewis; and her father, Charlie Lewis.

She is survived by her husband, Roosevelt Parker of Vicksburg; one daughter, Monica Rochelle Lewis of Albion, Mich.; her mother, Chestina Lewis of Albion; three brothers including Thomas Christopher Lewis of Pearl and Limbrick Matthew Lewis of Albion; three sisters, Debra Lynn Robinson of Vicksburg, Elena Roby of Albion and Stephanie Andrea Oliver of Twin City, Minn.; one grandson, Jamaris Lewis; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

EARL L. MORRIS

NEWELLTON, La. Services for Earl L. Morris will be at 3 p.m. today at the chapel of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Davis Sheeham and the Rev. J. Fulton McGraw officiating. Burial will follow at Legion Memorial Cemetery in Newellton.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Morris died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, at his home in Newellton. He was 87.

He was born in Jackson and had lived in Newellton for 86 years. He was the registrar of voters for Tensas Parish for many years. He served in the Navy in World War II and was of the Jewish faith. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Newellton Fire Department for 71 years.

Survivors include his wife, Christine Gottlob Morris of Newellton; two sons, Albert Earl Morris of Newellton and Charles Morris or Franklinton, La.; two daughters, Patsy Jane Caldwell of Reading, Pa., and Marilyn Pearson of Mine Run, Va.; and five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Jones, Jeff Britt, Irby Gamble, Ricky Rush, Parnell Barfield and John Kitchen.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Kitchen, Doc Lancaster, Bob Barfield, Charles Fizer, Frank Burnside, Edwin Britt and Billy Lee.
