THOMAS B. BROWN

UTICA Thomas B. Brown died Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at his home in Utica. He was 68.

Mr. Brown lived in the Cayuga community in Hinds County and was a retired U.S. Army veteran. He was a farmer and cattleman and a member of Cayuga United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Edith W. Brown of Utica; three daughters, Lynn B. Wood of Germantown, Tenn., Linda P. Anagnos of Bartlett, Tenn., and Lisa B Reese of St. Francisville, La.; two brothers, Charles J. Brown of Hockessin, Del., and Robert B. Brown of York, Penn.; and two sisters, Ann Strong and Patricia Currie, both of Utica.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Cayuga United Methodist Church with the Revs. John Altman and Derick Reese officiating. Visitation will be 4 until 7 tonight at the Glenwood Funeral Home in Utica.

CLARENCE WILLIAM GILMORE

EPPS, La. Clarence William Gilmore died Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at North Louisiana Rehab Hospital in Ruston, La. He was 100.

Mr. Gilmore was born in Jonesboro, La., and graduated from Simsboro High School. He attended Louisiana Tech University and the University of Chicago. He received a master’s degree in education. He was a teacher and principal of Epps High School in Epps, La., and served as superintendent of education for the West Carroll Parish School Systems.

Mr. Gilmore was a member of Epps Baptist Church where he was a deacon.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sibyl Smith Gilmore.

He is survived by one son, Dr. Joe William Gilmore of Ruston; one daughter, Sibyl Ann Leach of New Orleans; three granddaughters; two grandsons; and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Cleveland, Inmon Powell, David McVay, Dennis Labatt, Don Gwin and Douglas Fairchild.

Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Epps Baptist Church, Floyd A. Hale and members of the Go-Getum Sunday School Class.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. today with the Rev. Pat Loftin officiating. Burial will be at Epps Cemetery.

ELVA LORN MOSS JR.

OAK GROVE Elva Lorn “Sonny & Money Man” Moss Jr. died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at West Carroll Memorial Hospital in Oak Grove. He was 79.

Mr. Moss was preceded in death by his parents, Elva Lorn Sr. and Ruth Victoria Moss; and one son, Douglas Moss.

He is survived by two sons, Elva “Buddy” Moss III of Epping, N.H., and Frank W. Moss of Allenstown, N.H.; four daughters, Victoria Lytle of Oak Grove, Janet Glorioso of Anchorage, Alaska, Amanda Martin of Florence, N.H., and Betty King of Crossett, Ark.; 22 grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be C.B. Beason, Robert Moss, Beanie Moss, Robbie Brumley and Harvey Elliott.

Services were Saturday at Cox Chapel-Oak Grove with the Rev. Jimbo Herring officiating. Burial was at Oak Grove Cemetery.

GRACE Z. SAIKLEY

SLIDELL, La. Services for Grace Z. Saikley will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church with the Rev. Peter Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 until 8 p.m. Monday at Riles Funeral Home. Trisagion Prayers will be at 6 p.m.

Mrs. Saikley died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at her home in Slidell, La. She was 70.

Mrs. Saikley was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and lived in Vicksburg for 35 years before moving to Slidell in 2000.

As a member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church for 26 years, she served with the Women of St. George and the Cedars Ladies Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Very Rev. Nicholas Saikley, who served as pastor of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church; her parents, Edward and Katy Sadaka Zarick; three sisters; and one brother.

Mrs. Saikley is survived by one son, Frank Saikley of Mobile; one daughter, Kathy S. Saway of Slidell; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Robert Nicholas Saway, Nicholas Paul Saikley, Walter Mattingly, Robert Rials, Bob Brasfield, Robert Scoggins, Robert A. Saway, Charles Riles and the men of St. George Orthodox Church.

HENRY H. VANCE

UTICA Henry H. Vance died Saturday, Sept. 281, 2002, at St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson. He was 68.

Mr. Vance was born in Attala County and lived in Utica for 49 years. He was a retired road foreman for the Hinds County Road Department, District 3. He attended Carpenter United Methodist Church in Carpenter, Miss.

Mr. Vance is survived by his wife, Christine G. Vance of Utica; three sons, Rick Whatley and Henry Vance, both of Utica, and Chuck Vance of Jackson; one daughter, Ramona Vance Hennington of Utica; two brothers, Dalton Vance of Birmingham and Lester Vance of Muscle Shoals, Ala.; five sisters, Dorothy Rhines, Marie Edwards, Charlene Miles, Betty Milner and Linda Thompson, all of Kosciusko; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Carpenter United Methodist Church with burial at Carpenter Cemetery. The Revs. Bob Hill and Johnny Wilburn will officiate. Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. until the service Monday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Utica.

Pallbearers will be Robert Mobley, Richard Beasley, Johnny Gilbert, Woody Cook, Dan Weir, Dan Hodge, Bobby Lewis and Bill Flowers.

Memorials may be made to Carpenter United Methodist Church or the Carpenter Cemetery.

SAMMIE WALL

DELTA Services for Sammie Wall will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Able M.B. Church in Mound with burial at Oakwood Cemetery. Tennant Mortuary Service in Rayville is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday at Bethel M.B. Church in Tallulah.

Mrs. Wall died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at River Region West in Vicksburg. She was 76.

Mrs. Wall was born in Vicksburg and was a lifelong resident of Delta. She was retired.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin H. Wall, and a brother, Lonnie Ruffin.

She is survived by a son, Benjamin H. Wall Jr. of Delta; one granddaughter, Desiree Wall of Delta; a sister and brother-in-law, Verlina and John Cheatwood; and other relatives and friends.
