Frank Arthur Scott died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at the G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery Veterans Administration Hospital in Jackson. He was 87.
Mr. Scott had worked for the Corps of Engineers.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Clover Valley M.B. Church on Highway 27. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Westhaven Funeral Home of Jackson has charge of arrangements.
AKLEMIA REGINA BRUNSON SCRANDELL
ORLANDO, Fla. Aklemia Regina Brunson Scrandell died Sunday, Sept. 29, 2002, at Orlando Regional Medical Center in Orlando, Fla. She was 37.
Born in Chicago, Ms. Scrandell received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Louisiana State University and a master’s degree in accounting from the University of North Florida. She pursued doctoral work at Nova University.
She was past basileaus of Eta Kappa chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. At LSU, she helped create the Gospel Choir and served on the Black Culture Committee and Pan-Hellenic Council.
She was founder and CEO of Scrandell’s Tax and Accounting Service & ASPC Corp. in Orlando. She was a member of the Florida Bar Association’s Disciplinary Board, the Black Business Investment Fund and Women for Progress Investment Club. She taught at Southern University and the University of Phoenix.
She was a member of Greater New Hope Baptist Church in Orlando.
Ms. Scrandell was preceded in death by her adopted parents, John and Ophelia Scrandell.
Survivors include Preston Cook; one son, Amanni Akia Cook-Scrandell; her parents, Sylvester and Joycelyn Brunson; her grandmother, Mattie Holmes; seven sisters, Beverly Simpson, Theresa Brunson, Natalie Brunson Wheeler, Shedrika Brunson Green, Cheri Shonta White, Angie Smith and Rose Jackson; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at King Emanuel Baptist Church in Woodville with the Rev. Audrey Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Bunker Hill Cemetery in Woodville under the direction of Rollins Funeral Chapel of Fayette.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Friday until the service at the church.
Pallbearers will be Michael Wheeler, Collin Thomas, Juan Anthony, Patrick Green, Anthony Brown, David White and the men of Christian Unity Baptist Church.
Honorary pallbearers will be Wendell Grimes, Elvin Leahman Sr., Elwyn Grimes, Gary Brown Sr. and Johnny Wesley Holmes II.
DOROTHY MAXINE IRBY SMITH
OAK GROVE Dorothy Maxine Irby Smith died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, at her home in Oak Grove. She was 68.
Mrs. Smith was born in West Carroll Parish.
She was preceded in death by her father, Willie Drannon Irby, and two brothers, Noel Irby and Ronnie Irby.
She is survived by her husband, Vernon Smith of Oak Grove; a son, Charles Vernon Smith of Chatham, La.; two daughters, Rhonda Kay Satcher of Ruston, La., and Dorothy Hunt of Evanston, Wyo.; three brothers, Danny Irby of Monroe, Terry Irby of Baton Rouge and Kenny Irby of Maringouin, La.; eight sisters, Willie Jean Smith, Rebecca Mayhall, Cherry Berthelot, Linda Collum and Reva Causey, all of Oak Grove, Donna Whitney of Baton Rouge and Darlene Smith of Haughton, La., and Brenda Haverkampf of Little Rock, Ark.; and five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Goodwill Church of God in Goodwill, La., with the Rev. David Radford officiating. Burial will follow at Redwing Cemetery in Oak Grove.
Pallbearers will be Larry Smith, Leo Honeycutt, Jeff Smith, Morris Berthelot, Jason Causey and Chase Smith.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ralph Collum Jr., Noel Collum, Krammer Irby, Michael Irby, Kenneth Irby and Jeremy Causey.
