FLORA MATTHEWS McCARTY

TALLULAH Flora Matthews McCarty died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, at Madison Parish Hospital. She was 79.

Mrs. McCarty was born in East Carroll Parish and had lived in Madison Parish for 65 years. A homemaker, she was a member of Willow Bayou Baptist Church.

Survivors include four sisters, Elma Willhite and Arminda Cable, both of Tallulah, Mae Garsee of Alton, La., and Mary E. Willhite of Columbia, La.; two brothers, Johnie L. Matthew of Tallulah and Albert Matthews of Crowville, La.; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Gaston officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Willhite, Johnie L. Matthews III, Nathaniel L. Matthews II, Nathaniel L. Matthews Sr., John A. Willhite Jr., Basil A. McCarty and James A. Matthews.

Honorary pallbearers will be Robert E. Matthews, Johnie L. Matthews IV, Hank Matthews and Glen Wilcox.

JEAN WASHINGTON

FAYETTE Jean Washington died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002 at St. Dominic Jackson Memorial Hospital. She was 40.

Mrs. Washington was born in Natchez and later moved to Fayette.

She was an assistant teacher with the Jefferson County School system.

Mrs. Washington was a member of the Mt. Isreal Baptist Church where she served as the assistant secretary.

She was preceded in death by her father Quitman Starks Sr. and brother Quitman Starks, Jr.

Survivors include her mother, Eular Starks of Fayette; nine brothers, Charles Starks, Sidney Washington, Willie Washington, Franklin Washington, Abron Washington, Elton Washington, Vernie Washington, Frederick Washington all of Fayette, Herbert Washington of Charleston; five sisters, Mattie Mosby of Baton Rouge, La., Pauline Starks of Fayette, Dorothy Lauderdale of Cleveland, Ohio, Barbara Nell Thomas of Lorman, Naomi Rhodman of Vicksburg; one uncle, Booker T. Washington of Los Angeles; one aunt, Lulla Gilchrist of Los Angeles; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Jefferson County High School Auditorium with the Rev. Leon Howard officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Isreal Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Spencer Funeral Home from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and at the school from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.

Pallbearers will be Wendell Harried, Arnell Harried, James Bailey, Cammie Hutcherson, James Lee and Carl Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Starks, Sidney Washington, Henry Washington, Franklin Washington, Abron Washington, Elton Washington, Herbert Washington, Vernie Washington, Frederick Washington and Troy Washington.
