JACK EDWARD HALE
Jack Edward Hale died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, at his home in Baton Rouge. He was 77.
Mr. Hale was a native of Alton, Ill., and a former resident of Vicksburg for 20 years. He was a printer for the St. Louis Post Dispatch for 35 years and served as a frogman for the Navy in World War II. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Disabled Veterans of America, Moose Lodge and Cooties. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma J. Hale, and his parents, Charles Edward Hale and Iola McLaughlin.
Survivors include four daughters, Rebecca Shaw of Baton Rouge, Theresa Robinson of Wood River, Ill., Jo Ellen Hale of Biloxi and Carol Ann Townsend of Hoschton, Ga.; two sons, Shawn Hale and Shane Hale, both of Wood River; one sister, Carol Welling of St. Louis, Mo.; one brother, William Hale of Edwardsville, Ill.; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Fisher Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Philip Aguh officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home. Rosary will be at 7 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Brian Shaw, Kevin Shaw, Chris Gilmer, Neil Hale, Constantino Ortega Jr., Robert Sullivan, James Roan and Philip Hale.
Honorary pallbearer will be Cody Hale.
COREAN HOWARD
ST. JOSEPH Corean Howard, a former resident of Vicksburg, died Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, at Franklin Medical Center in Winnsboro, La. She was 81.
Mrs. Howard was a resident of St. Joseph.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Pilgrim Chapel Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Panola Cemetery in St. Joseph.
JIM JONES SR.
UTICA Jim Jones Sr. died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He was 82.
Mr. Jones was born in Copiah County to the late Emerson and Castana Taylor Jones. He was a member of Greater White Oak M.B. Church in Utica.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie B. Scott-Jones; four children, Stella F. Jones, Margaret Jones Conners, Rosella Jones and Otta Clyde; two grandchildren; Tommie L. Jones and Kimberly Rodney; four brothers; and five sisters.
Survivors include 11 sons, Jim Jones Jr., Tommie E. Jones and Archie L. Jones, all of Marrero, La., Don Jones and Johnnie F. Harris of Harvey, La., Willie Gene Jones of Miami, L.J. Coleman of Chicago, Ernest L. Jones of Hermanville and Ron Jones, William Coleman and Jimmy L. Harris, all of Utica; seven daughters, Mary A. Jones, Carrie L. Vance, Castana Gaines, Estella Coleman and Flora J. Funches, all of Utica, and Sally Raymond and Diane Harris, both of Harvey; two brothers, Quitt Jones and Dewitt Jones, both of Utica; six sisters, Pendora J. Hawkins of Gretna, La., Sadie People of Bolton and Annie Schuler, Fannie Broome, Janie J. Neal and Jorene Pendelton, all of Utica; 52 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Greater White Oak M.B. Church with the Rev. Lonzo McClure officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery, with repast at Utica Community Center.
Cook Funeral Home Inc. of Jackson has charge of arrangements.
REOLA MURPHY MARSHALL
Services for Reola Murphy Marshall will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Olive No. 1 M.B. Church on Baldwin Ferry Road. Burial will be at Green Acres Memorial Park, followed by repast at American Legion Tyner-Ford Post 213, 1618 Main St.
Visitation will be from 6 until 7 p.m. Friday at Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home.
Mrs. Marshall died Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 69.
Mrs. Marshall was a member of Mount Olive No. 1 M.B. Church. She retired from Vicksburg Convalescent Home. She served as president of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners.
She is survived by her husband, Sellos Marshall Jr.; two sons, Larry Marshall and Carl Marshall, both of Vicksburg; a daughter, Clara Davis of Vicksburg; two brothers, Arthur Murphy and Percy Murphy, both of Rosedale; one sister, Alberta Thomas of Greenville; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.
