MARSHALL COLEMAN

Marshall “Johnnie Cakes” Coleman died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, at his home. He was 63.

Mr. Coleman was of the Baptist faith and retired from the Navy.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Coleman; his parents, Ben and Mary Coleman; one brother, Henry Coleman; and one sister, Margie Coleman.

Survivors include one brother, Bennie Coleman of San Jose, Calif.; four sisters, Betty Manning of San Francisco, Calif., Curties Mary Lewis and Ruby Moore, both of Jackson, and Minnie Grayson of Vicksburg; four stepsons, Robert Connor, Ronald Connor, Alexander Fultz and Dewayne Connor, all of Vicksburg; two stepdaughters, Jennifer Fultz and Tammie Connor, both of Vicksburg; and a number of relatives and friends.

Williams Funeral Service has charge of arrangements.

ALFRED A. HOLMES

TALLULAH Alfred A. Holmes died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, at Madison Parish Hospital. He was 77.

Mr. Holmes was a veteran of World War II, serving the Army in the European Theatre. He moved to Tallulah in 1949 and worked as a mechanic and service manager for Lamar T. Loe Chevrolet before co-founding H&H Repair Service in 1973. He was senior deacon of Parkview Baptist Church and was church treasurer for 29 years.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Price Holmes; three sons, Darryl Holmes of Delhi, Shelby Holmes and Mark Holmes, both of Tallulah; two daughters, Karen Cobb and Phyllis Williams, both of Tallulah; two sisters, Cleora Cassels of Rosefield, La., and Rowena Adams of Tallulah; and 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services were at 11 a.m. today at Parkview Baptist Church with the Revs. Cletus Moak and Fulton McGraw officiating. Burial followed at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers were grandsons: David Cobb, Michael Henson, Phillip Henson, Lynn Holmes, Steven Holmes, Tracy Holmes and Andrew Holmes.

Honorary pallbearers were deacons of Parkview Baptist Church, Collins Thomas and Don Butler.

MOSE ELLA PORTER

PORT GIBSON Mose Ella Porter died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at the Claiborne County Nursing Home. She was 92.

Mrs. Porter was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness in Port Gibson.

She is survived by her caregiver, Lucille G. Williams of Port Gibson; three nieces, Johnnie Ruth Compton-Tolliver and Jerry Compton, both of Russum, and Sarah Clay of Natchez; a nephew, James Compton of Russum; and a number of relatives and friends.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness with the Rev. Robert Collier officiating. Burial will follow at McCay Cemetery.

Visitation is today from 1 until 5 p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Port Gibson.

JULIA STEVENSON

ROLLING FORK Julia Stevenson died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002 at Delta Region Medical Center in Greenville. She was 84.

Mrs. Stevenson was a Rolling Fork resident. She was a member of the Knights and Daughters of Tabor, the Mount Alban Union and Mount Zion Church where she was a church mother.

Survivors include 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at noon Saturday at Mount Zion M.B. Church in Cary. Burial will follow at Greene Chapel Cemetery in Rolling Fork.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Saturday until the service at the church.
