Ebersole leads St. Al to 2nd place

[10/14/02]Alan Ebersole won the 500-yard freestyle and the 100-yard breaststroke to lead the St. Aloysius boys to a second-place finish at the Jones County Invitational swim meet Saturday in Laurel.

St. Al finished with 72 points, well behind meet winner Biloxi’s 200 points. West Jones was third with 62 points, while Warren Central was sixth with 27 points.

In the girls’ meet, WC finished 19 points ahead of St. Al, 37-18, for seventh place. Biloxi won the girls’ meet with 128 points, and Oak Grove was second with 88. Vicksburg competed, but did not point in either meet.

Ebersole led St. Al’s charge by winning the 500-yard freestyle in 5 minutes, 15.64 seconds. He then came back to win the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:02.25.

Bern Ebersole was second in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard breaststroke, St. Al’s 200-yard medley relay and 200-yard freestyle relay both finished second, and Allen Karel was fourth in both the 100-yard butterfly and the 100-yard backstroke. WC’s Drew White was third in the 100-yard breaststroke, and Patrick Chausse had a pair of top-7 finishes.

On the girls’ side, WC’s Elena English was second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:01.18, and fourth in the 500-yard freestyle in 6:07.27.
