MATLEAN ALLEN MOFFETT

EDWARDS Matlean Allen Moffett died Friday, Oct. 18, 2002. She was 93.

Mrs. Moffett retired as a teacher in 1971 after 33 years of service. She taught elementary classes in the communities of Midway, Belmont and Cayuga. She also taught third-grade at Mixon Elementary-Junior High School.

She was a member of the Mississippi Retired Teachers Association and the Hinds County Foster Care Association. She served as president of the Little Zion Department of Mission and Little Zion senior choir. She was a 4-H Club sponsor and song leader for the Hinds County Congress. She was also affiliated with the Cemetery Care Group and Hinds County Singing Convention Children’s Department.

Mrs. Moffett operated a farm in Edwards before moving to Gary, Ind., in 1991. She was a member of Koinonia M.B. Church in Gary, where she was in the women’s choir and on the Mother’s Board.

Survivors include six daughters, Naomi Lyles, Lydia M. Hawkins, Juanita Walker, Bobbie M. Jones, Deborah Harris and Donnita Parker; two sons, Willis James Moffett and Fred D. Moffett Jr.; and other relatives and friends, including Jean Preston.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Little Zion M.B. Church, Middle Road, in Edwards.
