MAVIS LORRAINE FREEMAN
EPPS, La. Mavis Lorraine Freeman died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at her home in Epps, La. She was 72.
A native of Oak Grove, Mrs. Freeman was a retired licensed practical nurse. She was a member of Shady Grove Church of God in Rayville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Evelena and Marshall Benjamin Varner, and two sisters, Myrtle Johnson and Mamie McDermitt.
She is survived by four sons, Craig Freeman and Wayne Freeman, both of Epps, and Mike Freeman and Sandy Freeman, both of Ruston, La.; a daughter, Lenora Sukey of Bossier City, La.; one brother, Charles Varner of Epps; three sisters, the Rev. Alice Stevens and Belle Hinton, both of Epps, and Bernice Carpenter of Camden, Ark.; and 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Shady Grove Church of God with the Revs. Ricky Aultman and Bobby Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Epps Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Delhi, La.
Pallbearers will be Keith McDermitt, Brian Freeman, John Sukey, W.L. Glidewell, Johnny McVoy and O.A. Stewart.
MAE BELLE PANQUIN GUNN
TALLULAH Mae Belle Panquin Gunn died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at the Madison Parish Hospital in Tallulah. She was 83.
A lifelong resident of Madison Parish, Mrs. Gunn was a teacher’s aide and a member of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include five sons, Lee Gunn Jr. of Houston, Texas, John Curtis Gunn of Texarkana, Texas, Kenneth LaRue Gunn of New Baden, Ill., Walter Thomas Gunn of Holt, Mo., and Paul Glenn Gunn of Winnoa, Texas; a sister, Audrey Miller of Tallulah; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home Chapel in Tallulah with the Rev. Fred Fulton officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Eric Gunn, Jon Gunn, Matthew Gunn, Jacob Gunn, Kent Gunn and Russell Gunn.
BEN MITCHELL McFARLIN
OAK GROVE Ben Mitchell McFarlin died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at Glenwood Medical Center in West Monroe. He was 72.
Born in Oak Grove, Mr. McFarlin was a resident of West Monroe.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Jean McFarlin; and his parents, Annie Mae and Frank Story McFarlin.
He is survived by three sons, Ben Michael McFarlin and Story Mitchell McFarlin, both of West Monroe, and Bradley Myles McFarlin of Downsville, La.; a brother, Frank Stoney McFarlin; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Cox Chapel in Oak Grove with Howard Huggins officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bradley McFarlin, Jimmy Bradley, Kent Davis, Tony Davis, Mabry McFarlin and Ricky McFarlin.
SIDNEY REECH
LAKE PROVIDENCE Sidney Reech died Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, La. He was 80.
Born in Baton Rouge, Mr. Reech was a resident of Lake Providence. He received his master’s degree in agriculture from Louisiana State University. He served in World War II as a naval aviator, then worked for United Fruit Company in Central America.
He was associate county agent for Richland Parish from 1949 until 1965 and served as county agent for East Carroll Parish until 1983. He was a lifelong Mason and member of the Kiwanis and Rotary clubs.
Mr. Reech was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney D. and Carrie E. King Reech.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Miriam Guynes “Jacky” Reech of Lake Providence; one son, Robert Reech; and nieces, nephews and other relatives, including Barbara O’Neal and Lillian Stodghill, both of Rayville.
Services were at 11 a.m. today at First United Methodist Church in Lake Providence with the Rev. Bill McLain officiating. Burial followed at Farmerville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Van Reech Jr., Rassie Smith Jr., Carey O’Neal, Cecil Willis, William Stodghill, Billy Newman and Mark Brown.
Honorary pallbearers were John Terral, Don Weston, David Harvey and Woodrow Deal.
