JIMMIE LEWIS JACKSON

FAYETTE Jimmie Lewis Jackson died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at Hospice of Central Mississippi in Ridgeland. He was 50.

Mr. Jackson was born in Jefferson County and attended Alcorn State University. He was a member and deacon at Rose Hill Baptist Church.

He worked in the maintenance department at Isle of Capri Casino in Natchez. He served as alderman for the City of Fayette and was lead singer and manager of the Fayette Spiritual Aires.

Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by his parents, Josephine Beverly and J.P. Jackson Sr.; and two brothers, Albert Jackson and Percy Jackson.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Coleman Jackson of Fayette; two daughters, Vashun Delmetris Jackson of Southaven and Lesheva Rene Jackson of Fayette; one brother, J.P. Jackson Jr. of Fayette; a sister, Janie Jackson Coleman of Fayette; a grandson, Rodre’ Jayshawn Tenner of Fayette; and friends and other relatives, including Carlee Chiplin of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rose Hill Baptist Church No. 2 with the Rev. James Beverly officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 until 7 p.m. Friday at Rollins Chapel in Fayette.

IDA MAE McNEIL

CINCINNATI, Ohio Services for Ida Mae McNeil will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mother of Christ Church, 5301 Winneste Ave., in Cincinnati. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery under the direction of Renfro & Piper Funeral Service. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service Saturday at the church.

Ms. McNeil died Monday, Nov. 11, 2002, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati. She was 55.

A former resident of Vicksburg, Ms. McNeil was employed by Cincinnati Metropolitan Housing Authority.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert and Inetta Williams; and her grandmother, Alice Washington.

Survivors include two sons, Michael McNeil and Jeffery McNeil, both of Cincinnati; six daughters, Deborah Broach, Yolanda Little, Pamela Hemphill, Chandrula Nelson, Ursula Jones and Jennifer McNeil, all of Cincinnati; three brothers, Elbert Williams Jr., Danny Williams and Anthony Williams, all of Cincinnati; four sisters, Alice Blackmore, Shirley Mays Thomas and Carolyn Williams, all of Vicksburg, and Inetta Smith of Cincinnati; 19 grandchildren; and other relatives, including the Funches family of Vicksburg.

JOE NERVIS SR.

Services for Joe Nervis Sr. will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at New Zion M.B. Church on Halls Ferry Road with the Rev. Henry Williams officiating. Burial will follow at New Zion Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 6 p.m. Friday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home and from 1 p.m. Saturday until the service at the church.

Mr. Nervis died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at his home in Warren County. He was 76.

Mr. Nervis was retired from W.J. Runyon Construction Company. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army and a deacon of New Zion M.B. Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Nervis Sr. and Cynthia Fields; his wife, Irene Tolliver Nervis; one brother, Frank Nervis Jr.; two sons, Frank Nervis and David Nervis; and one daughter, Clara N. Thornton.

He is survived by four sons, Joe Nervis Jr. of Aurora, Ill., Louis Nervis of Houston, Texas, Mose Nervis of Huntsville, Ala., and Julius Nervis of Vicksburg; four daughters, Rosie Valentine of Hartsville, Texas, Cynthia N. Patterson of Kenner, La., and Catherine N. Bolden and Winnie Lee Mays, both of Vicksburg; one sister, Willie Mae Moore of Rolling Fork; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

LAURA MARSHALL PORTWOOD

Laura Marshall Portwood died today, Nov. 14, 2002, at Trace Haven Nursing Home. She was 93.

Mrs. Portwood was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg, a homemaker and a member of Christ Episcopal Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Capt. Lee W. Portwood Sr.; a daughter, Doris Elizabeth Null; a son, Robert John Portwood; three sisters, Doris Arnez, Marie Barlow and Emma Ross; and a brother, Jesse Mack Ross.

Survivors include a son, Lee W. Portwood Jr. of Alexandria, La.; a daughter, Ethel Jane Gibson of Natchez; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Fisher Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Clifton McInnis officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon until the service Friday.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Barlow, Humphrey Barlow, Clay Gibson, Jesse Mack Ross, Robert Portwood, Jeff Portwood and Alex Herrington.
