One week after being blown out by 23, the Vicksburg Missy Gators (3-2) played Provine to the wire Thursday night, only to come up short, 55-51.

Tiffany Hubbard scored a team-high 17 points and Arcola Scott added 11.

“We showed a lot of character because I thought it could easily have gotten out of hand,” said Vicksburg coach Mike Coleman, whose team fell behind 23-9 at the end of the first quarter.

The Missy Gators, who lost in the second round of the Coca Cola Classic, 68-45, to Provine a week ago, pulled to within three at the half.

“If they aren’t the No. 1 team in the state, I don’t know who is,” Fuller said after his team’s loss to No. 4 Callaway.

Sophomore Cookie Johnson scored a game-high 24 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Lady Vikes.

Sophomore Juanita Ward paced Callaway with 20 and Murrah transfer Janie Mitchell netted 17.
