CHARLES RUSSELL BLACK

REDWOOD Charles Russell Black, known as “Boy” and as “Red,” died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002, in Albemarle, N.C. He was 70.

A resident of Redwood, Mr. Black was a veteran of the Army serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired shipping operator for International Paper, a member of the Masonic Lodge 804 of Saraland, Ala., and the Backside Hunting Club in Vicksburg.

Survivors include his mother, Mary Gussie Black Jones of Brewton, Ala.; a son, David Eugene Black of Mobile, Ala.; three daughters, Pat Poston of Albemarle, Pamela Ramaker of Mobile, Ala., and Kim Ford of Vicksburg; two stepsons, Greg Newman and Paul Newman, both of Vicksburg; two stepdaughters, Vicky Darden of Rolling Fork and Kelly Myers of Vicksburg; three brothers, Alfred Black and “Pete” James Williamson, both of Thomasville, Ala., and George “Coot” Black of Century, Fla.; two sisters, Ida Bell of Flomaton, Ala., and Gracie Mae Gunn of Century; six grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild; and friends, including Jeannie Austin.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Flomaton Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Wasden Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Sardis Cemetery in Wawbeek, Ala.

Visitation will be from noon until the service Saturday.

VIRGINIA ANN BROWN

OAK GROVE, La. Virginia Ann Brown died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, La. She was 60.

Mrs. Brown lived in Oak Grove, La.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Ray Brown, and her parents, John Wiley Bankston and Ollie Marie Bankston.

Survivors include a son, Mike Kindrix of Oak Grove; a brother, Leonard Bankston of Oak Grove; and two sisters, Linda Hester of Forest, La., and Mildred Bancroft of Oak Grove.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Green Baptist Church in Oak Grove with the Rev. Fred Hale officiating. Burial will follow at New Forest Cemetery in Forest under the direction of Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove.

Pallbearers will be Brian Lewis, Chuck Bankston, Scotty Hester, Jason Harper, Edward Bancroft, John Ray, Jason Taylor and Johnny Taylor.

MARY FRANCES WILSON DAVIS

Mary Frances Wilson Davis died Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 64.

A native of Darnell, La., Ms. Davis lived in Vicksburg, was a homemaker and a member of New Vision Worship Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bennie and Geneva Travis Wilson.

Survivors include an uncle, James Travis of New Orleans; an aunt, Audie Lawrence of Mount City, Ga.; and cousins including Cloie Black of Delhi, La., and Debbie and Sonny Muse of Transylvania, La.

Services were to be at 3:30 today at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Walter Ritchey officiating. Burial was to follow under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.

GOLDIE ALAMEDA FEROBEN

EPPS, La. Goldie Alameda Feroben died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002, at Richland Parish Hospital in Delhi, La. She was 97.

Mrs. Feroben lived in Epps, La.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Tom Feroben; two sons, James Carroll Feroben and Charles Thomas Feroben Jr.; and a daughter, Margaret Waters.

Survivors include a son, Doyle Feroben of Epps; a daughter, Margie Williams of Houston, Texas; ten grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services were at 9 a.m. today at Cox Funeral Chapel in Delhi with the Rev. Lee Piercy, pastor of Epps Baptist Church officiating. Burial followed at Epps Cemetery.

THOMAS E. STUKES JR.

Thomas E. Stukes Jr. died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002, at Trace Haven Nursing Home. He was 70.

A native of Manning, S.C., Mr. Stukes moved to Mississippi at an early age. He graduated from Delta State University and served in the Air Force in the Korean War.

He retired as a lab technician from Waterways Experiment Station after 30 years of service. He later owned and operated Vicksburg Auto Sales, retiring after 15 years.

He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas E. Stukes Sr.

Survivors include his mother, Mary L. Stukes of Vicksburg; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Myrna Gerard of Palmdale, Calif., and Dehra and Fred Harris of Arlington, Texas; and nieces and nephews.

Services were to be at 2 p.m. today at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Terry White, pastor of Bowmar Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was to follow under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home.

LEROY TAYLOR

WATERPROOF, La. Leroy Taylor died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. He was 87.

Mr. Taylor was born in Waynesboro and was a resident of Waterproof, La. He was a member of the Tensas Parish Masonic Lodge. A veteran of the Navy, he served in World War II and the Korean Conflict.

He was retired from Chevron and was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred “Curl” Taylor; his parents, Nathaniel and Vicci Verona Taylor; and three sisters, Beatrice Lee, Hazel Lee and Ines Lee.

Survivors include two daughters, Angela Stephens of Vicksburg and Verona Taylor of Ruston, La.; four grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday, La., with the Rev. Mark Rowlen officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Natchez.

Visitation will be from noon until the service Saturday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Brookie Aycock, Josh Blackmon, Ed Claypool, Jimmy Fairchilds, Roy Lee and Scott Zingery.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Walter Johnston, T.C. Lee, Deloris Pipes, Dr. Barry Tillman, John R. Tillman and the nursing staff of Trace Haven Nursing Home.
