ALLEN KEMP JONES

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. Allen Kemp Jones died Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, in Indianapolis, Ind. He was 60.

A resident of Indianapolis, Mr. Jones was a retired self-employed painter. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fannie and Clifton Jones, and four brothers, Henry Mitchell, D.C. Jones, J.C. Jones and Albert Jones.

He is survived by a brother, Otha V. Jones of Vicksburg, and three sisters, Doris A. Byrd and Ethel Primm, both of Indianapolis, and Betty Jean Harper of Jackson.

Services were Monday at Lavenia Smith and Summers Funeral Home in Indianapolis.

LENA DENNIS ROAN

PORT GIBSON Lena Dennis Roan died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. She was 99.

Born in Jefferson County, Mrs. Roan was a graduate of Jefferson County Agricultural High School and Mississippi College. She retired as principal and teacher from the Claiborne County Schools. She was a member of Pattison Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Stephen Dennis and Clara Pritchard Dennis, and her husband, John S. Roan.

Mrs. Roan is survived by a son, John S. Roan Jr. of Jackson; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Port Gibson with the Rev. John Slade officiating. Burial will follow at Wintergreen Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be John Roan III, Emmett Roan, Andrew Roan, Sam Sorrels, Darrell Sorrels and Randy Sorrels.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ethan Porter, Malcolm Montgomery, Gerald Montgomery, Aubrey Carter and Curtis Carter.

MARY RUTH ROBINSON

Mary Ruth Robinson died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. She was 70.

A Vicksburg native, Ms. Robinson lived here until she moved to Fort Lauderdale.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Willie Robinson; one son, Gary Robinson; a brother, Jimmy Robinson; and four sisters, Clara Nash, Elizabeth Jones, Elnora Shepard and Annie Jo Smith.

She is survived by four daughters, Jacquelyn Carter of Chicago, Debra Walker of Fort Lauderdale and Rose Curry and Pamela Brown, both of Vicksburg; a brother, Benjamin Robinson of Port Gibson; one sister, Grace Johnson of Vicksburg; seven grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Grove Street M.B. Church, 707 Pierce St., with the Rev. Casey Fisher officiating.

PETER SMITH SR.

Peter Smith Sr. died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. He was 70.

Mr. Smith was a member of Travelers Rest M.B. Church. He retired from Piggly Wiggly Stores Inc.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin Smith Sr. and Mary Etta Smith; a sister, Leha Mae Smith; and two brothers, Alex Smith and Richard Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Pearl E. Smith of Vicksburg; two sons, Kenneth Jolly of Vicksburg and Peter Smith of Kissimmee, Fla.; four daughters, Lena Tolliver and Pearl Nelson, both of Vicksburg, Mary Washington of Texarkana, Texas, and Patricia Benson of Huntsville, Ala.; five brothers, Jesse Smith and Robert Hall, both of Vicksburg, James Smith of Drew, George Smith of Denver, Colo., and Calvin Smith of Chicago; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
